I highly doubt any employer would find the old stuff, but PI harvesting faggots might try to link a person's real identity to their online persona. I trolled a site so hard that several members said they were going to "dox" me and link my real identity with stupid shit I had said on their forum. I wouldn't want that shit linked to who I am. Not that many people are motivated to do something like that, but if it were to occur it'd be pretty awful. I've posted guides on anal sex, racism, stuff about bestiality and other topics I'd prefer not to have linked to my real name.

Fair enough. I used to be pretty paranoid in the same way, like these communities aren't exactly the most reputable places to start with and I've openly argued for some pretty controversial positions over the years. I thought it was justified, and probably still is.

But as the internet becomes more commonplace I think there's a greater understanding in the public at large that there's a clear division between what's said in a place like this and how a person behaves out in the world. Like DOOM used to be this big thing, people couldn't imagine kids playing this violent video game and not going on a rampage, but now we don't even bat an eye. I think as more people share worldstar videos with the comment "lol niggers" and whatnot it'll become clear in the same way that trolling and bullshitting on the internet is not representative of a person's character. I work in a field that's fairly progressive about this kind of thing, if one day my boss was like "it says here you pretended to be a girl on this website" I'd be like "yup, totes did that" and I think that would be that.
