I just bought a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro with a manual transmission...pretty much the exact car I've been looking for for quite a while.
it has the 1.8 liter turbocharged 5-valve engine, so even though it made a slouch 210 ponies in stock trim, the potential for WAY more is there.
I got the car for extremely cheap ($2k) as compared to bluebook price ($6.5k+) because it has a bad clutch. clutch replacement thread coming soon.
I also have a Mitsubishi Intercooler, Blow of valve, and boost controller I will be installing soon, afterwards I will purchase a chip and dyno tune for it.
I liked Subaru and DSM cars, but they were faarrr to expensive, and the interiors were classic cheap japanese quality. the Audi has the driveline of a subaru (EXTREMELY similar, but audi came out with their system first, so they didn't copy) with a vaguely similar engine to a mitsubishi 4g63 (if you squint real hard and imagine a longitudinal 4g63, it would be fairly close) and the interior on par with BMW and Mercedes, with the engineering of Volkswagen.
its an oddball car to like, but for a DD/rolling project I think its perfect
