One question:  why didn't you mod slave of the beast?

I didn't mod him because I don't know him well enough yet. i.e. He needs to post moar.

It's actually surprising how many promising members I have to disqualify for modship right now because they're simply not active enough at the moment.

Well, you can either be a 'good mod' by staying above the fray and ignoring things like this, or you could try to slum it with the users, but then you will be taken even less seriously than you are now.  You are a mod now, and are no longer 'one of us'.

Proots is being kind of a jerk.  Acknowledging this isn't really "slumming it up", and ignoring it is honestly most of what I'm doing.  And anyway, in my opinion, there's not much difference between users and moderators here.  We can still speak our minds as we see fit.

Attacks on Zek's character add nothing constructive to this thread, and have very little to do with the decision to mod me.

You are also of the opinion that your cats are 'cannibals' if they eat you, their owner, and 'in your opinion',  everyone and everything is one and lambs lay down with lions and the perfect diet is vegan and gun ownership is wrong and violence has no place in the world and that humanity is, at this point in history, ready to leave behind our 'old ways' of disharmony and hate, and that a new, peaceful utopia is being ushered in.

In other words, another example of wishful thinking.

Let me break this down for you into a nutshell: if your posts show a zero tolerance for kidiotic nonsense and pointless drivel, you won't be modding here. The mindset is still what sunk both Zoklet and Totse, even at this late date; kidiots can still be considered a "member", and we don't want to ruffle any of their feathers for fear of losing any. "Post more" actually means: let me see if you would boot any proven children off this webspace and we'll make a decision based entirely from that.

Hey, I am just 'treating her as an equal' by saying exactly what I want to say, no holds barred.  Isn't that what feminists want, to be 'treated as equals'?  Well, equa-howthefuckeveryouspellit, I will treat you like you are just another poster here.  When you type stupid shit, I will be there to point it out.

It is fine that you believe what you want to believe, but I have noticed a disturbing tendency of you to place an inordinate amount of importance to these beliefs, in some cases considering them 'facts' rather than 'opinions'.  Stop.  Stop that.

The best mods are the ones that, even though they're raging underneath, even though they're incredibly depressed or are feeling betrayed or perhaps even all of that, do not let it interfere in any way with the responsibility that they have. You also may not believe it but people do look up to the site staff as an example, even if it's only subconsciously. As such, they need to be a good example. Is it a tragedy that they let their anger show sometimes? No, but that leads into my second point.

Part of my job is deciding from among the userbase who would be a good mod. Who would be a good leader. And right now, I don't have very much to go off of when it comes to the Zoklet crowd. So, I have to make a decision with what sparse information I have or think I have. I have to analyze everything. And no matter who this equan person may have been in the past, during her time here, I have noticed that she has been active, nice, intelligent, easy-going, and hasn't ever flown off the handle at anyone here at all. I have discussed this with my staff and they have all agreed with me.

So with that in mind, when you guys tell me that this person is one of the most unfit people for modding, I think you'll understand me when I say that it's a little unbelievable to hear considering what I've seen so far.

I'm glad you brought out the "leadership" aspect as a requisite of being a mod, because it was always my belief mods should also be good if not great contributors most of the time when they do post. Since the entire purpose to a message board is to share information, give helpful advice, or at least give a thought provoking opinion....one would hope people that are modded have those necessary attributes.

But in Zek's case, exactly WHERE is all of that? 90% of the time his contribution(?) to a topic is some milquetoast one-liner, and usually its just emotional feel good tripe. Oh sure occasionally he'll make some comment about eating whatever food or "weapons are bad m'kay"....but you NEVER see Zek put up a paragraph or two of much of anything that is informative or thought provoking. Even as despised as I am because of my hard hitting truths about certain members....when I do post about regular topics at the end of the day I can give a sound, informative, and thought provoking opinion...even if you don't agree with it. But Zek comes out with nothing more than grade school babble, with a very simplistic mindset that doesn't show much of an adult outlook much less displaying any "leadership" quality.

Also, I would like to ask....you keep making this grandiose statement of..."this and this makes the BEST kind of moderator". Besides Zek or anyone else on Sanctuary staff, could you please give a couple of finite examples of past "best" moderators in your mind? Knowing you are unfamiliar with Zoklet, go back to Totse if you have to. Because in my mind, the "best ever" on Totse were Jackketch, Slave of the Beast, Arms Merchant, Angry Femme, and Spectral. ALL of these people displayed wonderful leadership qualities, had loads of entertaining contributions, but still had EMOTIONS in play....and could kick ass and takes names when they had to (with or without this dreaded "anger" directing their moderating abilities).

None of them came off as steady robots like you claim is an ideal quality, so I'm very curious to know some of the people you respected as being the "best" moderators you've seen in action.

Yeah, I find it laughable that he disqualifies potential moderators if they have been, how did he put it again?  If they...Haha omg, if they 'get flippant'.  Having a strong opinion or arguing with other users is an automatic disqualifier.  This place is fucked.

Most (all?) of what you're seeing there is expression of faith in "religious truth".  Language is messy business by nature, and I think you've misunderstood some of mine.

Language is only 'messy' in retrospect.  I own anything and everything I type, and it is hard to misunderstand or mistake what I am typing.  What is your excuse?

Much is lost in translation with language.  Always...

What's my excuse?  I don't really know.  Can you provide me some examples about what you're even talking about?  It's easier to talk specifics.

You know, I just wanna set this all aside for a second and ask you one thing. Why are you so dead set on trying to convince me that equan is a bad mod considering that if she really does start modding unfairly, she'll be demoted right away? If she really is as bad as you say then it's only a matter of time, right?
