Man, I go to work for 8 hours and come back and my forum is all gayed the fuck out with totalitarian Nazi queer bullshit!

I never read the rules, but I don't think drama is against the rules.  In fact, drama permeates from every inch of life.  I do well to minimize it's effects on my life, but all the masturbating moderating in the world isn't going to eliminate it.

Arnox: So, you told your family (muggles) that you run a forum for lowlifes (wizards) and didn't expect them to tell you that you're wasting your time on stupid bullshit?  And, I'm sorry to hear that your life sucks, but so does mine and everyone else's on this forum, so get the fuck over it.

Your job is to keep CP and PI off the forums.  And, to enforce the rules that I never read. Aside from that, you shouldn't exist, except to interact on a personal level, which I encourage you to do.

I approve of this post. Mostly for the muggle reference.

the US dept of corrections is a fine example of moderation gone wrong. they are a good template for what not to do.

I've never dealt with them. I've dealt with guards at juvey who spent the vast majority of their time betting on football games.

Arnox, as far as I'm concerned....you've done a pretty damn good job so far, and have been very fairy to this userbase. If anything you've been "too easy" on the troublemakers, which could be part of the problem. I have a couple of ideas myself what you could do to alleviate some of that stress, especially in regard to certain people that seem hellbent on causing drama and making flame threads every couple of hours if not minutes. But you've heard enough of that already, so I'll refrain for now.

And while I understand within your comment above you aren't saying I'm causing or even initiating some of the drama, its true that I'm a beacon for assholes. Unfortunately I have too much history with a lot of these spineless jackasses, and left a lot of butthurt, jealousy, and fractured egos in my wake. They truly can't get over it, and are stuck to my nuts like a pack of starstruck groupies.

I really don't want to see you burn out, nor do I want you to close this place down out of frustration. So with that being said, I'll take at least some of the heat/stress off your plate....and bow out for now. At least for a little while.

Your entire gimmick (life) is obsessing over the forum. The most logical thing to do it to advise the opposite of that, lest we want another absent admin like zok or jeff before him. If you invest too much time into trying force order and reason on a bunch of autistic criminals then you are most likely going to get fed up and say fuck this. Arnox is experiencing this exact phenomenon. Hes trying hard and is not satisfied with the results. This isn't an issue of site policy, its an issue of mentality. Sure, recommend site policy changes all you want, I'm not even going to get into that in this post, as I don't feel its actually relevant to the post that arnox just made. What is important is that our new admin doesn't go crazy, flee, or rage quit, as we have all seen before. As such, I think its important that he set realistic expectations for the site. Your view seems to be to ban all 'kidiots' and create a perfect harmony of forum posting. That isn't ever going to happen and pursing that goal will lead to bowl cancer or worse. I agree arnox has been doing a good job, but his frustration is based off of unrealistic expectations. Rather than throw site policy ideology at him, he should rather be encouraged to take his new role more realistically, with a grain of salt. Trying to eliminate 'drama' for instance, is like trying to eliminate aids from the corpse of someone who just died from aids. Its not going to happen, and if could happen, it wouldn't be overnight. Rather then get all emotionally invested, fail, and then give up, arnox should focus on long term patience, delegation, and realistic expectations.

As far as I can tell, hes the only real chief here. Yeah, there are other mods, but none can take his place for shit as far as I can tell. Jeff and zok were absent for months at a time, and shit kept running because they delegated basic tasks to others. Arnox needs to do the same, especially if he is this stressed out after only a few weeks. This is an interesting period, but if the site is a success, the level of stress is sure to increase from this point. Employing proper stress management techniques, site expectations, delegation, and policy are all crucial to the long term survival of this site.

Best post in this thread. Arnox, I would sincerely advise you heed Flowerz advice.

Arnox.. if they're shitposting or posting like a hostile kidiot in the discussion forums outside of the bitching forum, ban them. There's a huge and obvious difference between disagreeing (even vehemently) with someone's post in those places and simply trying to instigate a problem just so they can attention whore themselves, which is what the kidiots like to do. Just look at TheDarkRodent, for an example. Actively follows members around in the discussion forums, adds nothing but white noise to the threads, practically yelling out, "Please ban me!!" Member like DaGuru or Slave of the Beast or myself hit hard as for debate responses, but we don't follow users around the board like attention starved imbeciles. You have to look at a member's overall posting habits, and when you do, it becomes quite clear who the deliberate shit disturbers are and who the worthy debaters are. Members like Slave of the Beast and DaGuru and myself hit hard, but we always leave something of interest in our posts... some kind of point... but all the kidiots have on offer is slurs, ridicule, meaningless and useless/worthless insults, nothing of substance as far as actual content goes. And it's not at all hard to spot when you open their full posting history and just look at it all.

Its you, and the userbase. You aren't at fault at all, but your expectations certainly are.

My advice: You've been doing a good job so far (despite being mormon and loving dragons). A better job than zok anyways.

Don't set your expectations too high, and don't put in too much effort. Don't burn yourself out. I feel like that's what zok did. He went all in, and then quit. Be here, but don't be obsessed with this website. Maintain your sanity and personal life above all else. This thread in itself is proof enough of that. Trying to mod every thread in the forum for drama is suicide. I get that you want quality posts, but you can not, and will not, be able to enforce that. Its something that had to evolve on its own. Yes, some moderation is needed, but if you try to babysit the entire website, you are going to have a bad time, and just rage quit or go into exile like zok did. Don't make that mistake. Chill out.

My two cents anyways.

I should say, I'm not going to move ALL the drama to this thread. Only the more egregious examples of it. Also, this thread is most likely only going to be used temporarily. When everything finally starts to actually die down some, I'm going to decommission it.

Moving on to what you said about burning out mainly though, funnily enough, I got this same speech from an old poster from totse2 that used to post here as well. While it's all well and good to relax and stop trying to take care of this site so much, I just don't see how I can do that. Even what I'm doing now doesn't seem to be enough at all.

As far as I can tell, hes the only real chief here. Yeah, there are other mods, but none can take his place for shit as far as I can tell. Honestly, I don't feel that there's anyone here who I could trust to take my place who's actually active. I could call in a few very trusted friends I suppose but they're all busy. They don't have the time for this nonsense. ML is busy and Idio has a life. There's no one really so... I'm kind of alone. And even I may be about to join their ranks soon and begin to become very busy as well.

I'm a firm believer in positive reinforcement in communities like this.  You have to treat us all like children because that's kind of what we are when given free agency.  You don't hit children, you show them you respect them by talking to them frankly about the bad behavior and reward them for good behavior.

We have these useless stars on the left.  Arnox, maybe you could implement a thanks-like system that only allows you to hand out thanks?  And they could show up there on the left as stars.  And when a person collects 5 stars, they can trade them in for something neat.  Like maybe they would be able to reverse a ban placed on another member!  Within reason of course.  CP spammers need to stay gone forever.  But people like power to do things, and reversing a ban is always a positive thing for a person to do.  It could maybe strengthen the community in unexpected ways.

I say if you want more people to care, give them some limited powers or something as a reward when they start being consistently constructive and friendly.  Or something.

Just an idea.

Well, sure it would encourage good posts and niceness, but for all the wrong reasons. People will now be sucking up to me/the staff more than ever now just so they can get that extra power. And power to reverse a ban... Nope, bans are always given for good reason here.

Equa, you're just simply too nice. To put it bluntly, some people are unreasonable and/or just don't care and all they do is disrupt the community  and drive away the actually good members. Some people.... Just want to watch the world burn. (heh) So sometimes a ban is needed.

Time is always against you in some way or another.

I appreciate your responses, but respectfully, this statement?  ^^^^^ this?  This is never going to happen.  If you look at zoklets PEOO, for example, that was the most popular forum there, with the most traffic, and it was shitposting, 24/7, for years on end.  Literally years.

Since you mentioned bans, how is Mass Hypnonis's ban for PM'ing CP 60 days? It is permanent for posting it but 60 days for PM'ing it? Hmmm.

I dunno.  There's a quality contributor hiding in each shit poster, just waiting to shine.  Instead of disregarding them I'd much rather them be coaxed into being good.  Whatever that means.

Not sure how to make it happen.  Probably can't be done with everyone, but if they could find their niches and realize that they can express their passions without being morons this would be best.

And taking this a little further, punishing people for their bad behavior only further encourages it.  People are funny like that.  Banning people and moving their posts is a great way to make them indignant and even less motivated toward productivity.

Well, for one, he didn't actually post any pics. Just a link and a password. And he didn't even post it to that many members at all. The whole thing was kinda weird.

I agree with this. A lot of people who post as trolls usually have some bad experiences in their history, and trolling people or shitposting is their outlet to relieve some stress.

Everyone can be a quality contributor. They just need a little extra attention to feel like are included and part of the community, which is okay.

We're here for you, bros.

I'm still not sure if I'm a troll, a shitposter or a kidiot.

I guess I'll have to figure it out on my own.
who's the judge of if its funny and or clever? the mods. period.
