I posted an ad on Craigslist looking to trade phones, this chick from like 2 hours away has been annoying and blowing up my phone even though I told her it was too far for a trade. She suggested we ship our phones to each other... which seemed kind of air headed on her part. She got the shipping info, costs, told me she would ship her phone after class tomorrow and email me the tracking number.

Well, what if I didn't send mine, sold it instead, hypothetically, and I receive her factory reset iphone 5s... could she involve authorities and report it stolen even though she sent it to me?

I feel bad that the thought crossed my mind but I'm just curious what the outcome could be. Lastly, if I took said phone to my wireless carrier and put my number on it and immediately changed it to my apple ID,  etc. Could she or apple do anything about it?

Hmmmm

Even if I had it all set up under my info by the time she even realized? What a keeping people who sell their iphones from bricking them then? Nothing? Apple will brick them no matter what?

I personally think she thinks she is going to scam you, but maybe that is just my suspicious mind at work.  But I would think that you will face no recourse if you do pull this off, who's to say that she didn't give you the phone as a gift?  No one, that's who.

That's what I was thinking. I checked out her Facebook page and she seems harmless so I don't think she is trying to scam me, I'm not even sure if I would scam her... it just crossed my mind.

Do you know if apple could brick the phone even if I got it to my wireless carrier store and put my number and account in it?

I have no idea, but why would they do that?  If she reports it stolen and tells the police she mailed it to some stranger, I doubt they would even file the report.

Yes, I am not sure if you are familiar with the concept of 'bad ideas', but there is an associated saying; 'Leave your morals at the door'.

Do you know if that would constitute as mail fraud, MODC?

her sending you a phone isnt mail fraud

you taking her phone under the pretense of an equitable exchange of money/barter and not paying for it is mail fraud
