So I just got out of being detained for shoplifting

Basically there is a store near my school that me and my friends go to. just 2 weeks before I had been confronted by loss protection after stealing some stuff, but did the "you cant detain me" shit. Anyways I stole more shit today and now im getting fined 250 bucks. Where did I go wrong? I told him he couldnt detain me so he called the police and school security and followed me. I told them my name and plwaded the fifth. Is it easier to shoplift if the LP dont have the phone number to your school? I feel like in real life LP have lots less power.

If he busted you for shoplifting how in the name of the great pumpkin do u figure they cant detain you? Thats the whole point of busting someone for shoplifting...to detain them

I have always heard that lp cannot touch you, or detain you outside the store. This man did both so I am mystified.

Some stores have a 'don't chase' policy. Some stores have a chase them down and tackle them policy. Either way, whoever told you they cannot detain you doesn't know what they are talking about. They can and will detain you. So run. Run fast. If they chase you, hope they don't catch you. Also don't shoplift if you suck at it/have no common sense whatsoever. Its essentially impossible to get caught shoplifting. If you get caught once, it isn't your thing, IMO.

Okay thanks for the advice. I can successfully shoplift anywhere but the store next to my school, so I think ill be fine ill just have to run fast next time it sounds like

1. witnesses you conceal store merchandise
and
2. doesnt lose sight of you after concealing the merchandise
and
3. witnesses you bypass all the registers
then

they can legally detain you. outside...inside...anywhere AND use reasonable force to do so.

Last time they didn't detain me so they couldnt give a no trespass sheet. i have one now though :/ guess my scumbag ass will now only steal from,low camera count stores

Yeah, all I can do is echo what everyone else already said. You got caught, not big deal - but your mistake was not only returning to the store period - but returning in such a short time span and then shoplifting again.
