Landscaping Job Interview
« on: September 15, 2014, 04:59:32 am »
I found an ad on Craiglist for a Landscaping Gardening job and managed to get interview for tomorrow. It's an entry level position which should hopefully be a bit easier to get into considering I've only had jobs in fast type places. I enjoy working and staying busy and it's even better if it's a job in which I don't have to deal with stupid ass people. I've always prefered physical labor over anything else and since I want to eventually own my own property and do whatever the hell I want with it I feel like I could learn a few things from this. I am just hoping I can land this job so I can get my shit together before this year ends.

Has anyone else had a landscaping job? How was it? It would be pretty sweet to just be able to smoke before work and work my ass off, that is honestly the only way I can really have fun being high by doing something I enjoy.

I work in this field as one of my jobs. I make a good amount of money doing it. I'm one of the only employees and make a good amount of money doing it. We take the jobs most people don't and do it with few people but that just increases pay. I enjoy it as well. I have two office jobs but love my landscaping job. If you can just do the job and get it done then it's square. Work for small landscaping companies for the best treatment. I get clients that come out and ask for more and then offer to pay more. It's nice to negotiate your own pay without having to go through some sort or corporate bullshit.

Weed whacking in the humid 95F degree heat while pebbles and mud hit you in the face and gnats and mosquitoes buzz around your face trying to get up your nose. Your lardass boss giving you all the grunt work while he goes to smoke a cigarette and scowls and yells at you if you do something incorrectly. All while getting paid minimum wage and not always getting a full time salary.
If fucking sucks.

How long have you been doing it now? Like I said I have no experience in this field but I know how to get shit done as long as I am getting paid to do it, what would be a good starting wage?

Now that sounds like work. But why would you settle for minimum wage LOL. Even I was making about a dollar over minimum wage at those fast food places.

3 years with the same employer.  Starting wage? Well, where I am the bigger companies pay their mexicans around $9 an hour. I make $16 but I also work for a much smaller grass roots company.

My alarm didn't go off and because it was an hour bus ride I sent an email trying to reschedule. I made up that my uncle had a stroke and had to take him to hospital. Got an email back saying he hired someone else. Good thing I didn't waste my time. Am I just a big fuck up?

Maybe? Turnover in that field is high as fuck. It's hard to keep people on. I've hired a couple friends to help but they never do very well so I never call them back in. It's not for everyone.
