Was Zoklet's closing a warrant canary?
« on: September 10, 2014, 12:58:09 am »
Zok faked his own PI because the site was getting copied/mirrored by the NSA/FBI/CSIS and he wanted to let everyone know before they post anything heat. He got a pang of conscience from selling out coupon guy so he decided to do a canary and shut er down

discuss the likelihood of this scenario

Possible! Or he didn't fake it himself and the FBI/NSA/CSIS took extreme measures and leaked the PI themselves.. meaning that there is a guy here, who happens to be a son's fed. We're next!

Na, I'm in the camp that believes he was just an incompetent idiot. He constantly reared around speaking of new ideas and exciting changes, none of which came. He was an incapable administrator , arnox has already out-played zok's ability in listening to the community .

Riiiight....because he would need to post his PI in order to shut the site down and warn us....

No, this is a stupid thread.

You're thinking of 2009 when Jeff got a NSL and shut down TOTSE.

Highly unlikely. I think I'll stick to the original story

Your scenario is based on an outlandish assumption.

Truecrypt, yes, Lavabit, yes.

Zoklet, nah.

He created that 'Changes to the site's policies, administration, and culture etc' thread in one last hoorah for the rebirth of the community but then saw the nature of the replies and realised it was still a bickering wasteland that couldn't wheel spin out of the shithole it got itself in.

Had more regulars posted in that thread with mindful replies and support, his PI not got leaked, then Zoklet would probably still be up. Panthrax 'stepping down' as an admin wouldn't have helped either. Not that I'm glorifying his efforts as an admin, but simply one less admin in a general was going to put a lot of strain on the whole ordeal of running the site. The round table that was M&A was most likely a dysfunctional academy of mods and admins that couldn't really form solid solutions on keeping 'everyone happy'. This concoction of things was the final blow. Add the fact, over the course of running zoklet, having to deal with LE on occasion became a burden and drain on his motivation. Zok was a nerd more than maverick.

Fair play to the cunt to shutting down shop. More money in his pocket, less faggot drama he has to deal with.

Unfortunate about the AIDS though.

Are you sure about truecrypt? Of course it was suspicious but the audit still havent turned up anything

Id guess that 7.2 is fucked tho

As incredibly sketchy as the shutdown was theres still nothing conclusive

Take your thorazine and realize that the FBI has nothing to do with it. Zok just saw the community downfall and abandoned ship by faking aids.

More money in his pocket,

When is this myth going to be finally put to rest?? Hey never spent one dime of his own money to run that place, and its completely illogical and absurd to believe so. There is NO WAY in hell he spent money of his own on a place he himself was never a part of once the merger happened. That implies he had a caring and altruistic heart, and he was the direct opposite....a selfish little prick out for his own gains, "caring" only about his small nerd herd clique in IRC.

I agree with everything else though. He never wanted to get his hands dirty, and when he "came back"(?) he didn't like the fact people still mocked him and called him out for his failed ideas. He ALWAYS wanted to be viewed as some "god" over there....and expected everyone to fall at his feet as if he did something for the userbase.

And that was one of his biggest failings from the very beginning. He had the mindset that the thousands of users should show appreciation and gratitude towards him, when instead its HIM that should have been grateful for the opportunity to have thousands of users dumped in his lap. But Zok has never had any sense of gratitude towards anyone, not unless you were a yes-man and just agree with his immature and childish mindset. That was the greatest conflict of all....misbelieving the users were there for him, when instead HE was there for the users.

I think Zok may have been in legal trouble due to the site.
