Statement on recent DDoS attacks

-----------------

To all users of The Santuary,

I deeply apologize for the recent downtime we have experienced during this critical and sensitive time amidst recent events occurring within our sister communities.

A representative of avoyel.net has confirmed with proof that he was behind the recent targeted DDoS attacks.  On behalf of avoyel, he stated his demands of a banner advertisement for avoyel being displayed at the top of The Sanctuary, and he would not cease the attacks until this demand was met.

After further conversation with this individual, he and I came to the consensus that avoyel's target market most closely resembles the clientele we have that would browse our 'Bad Ideas' forum.

To be frank, the infrastructure was not established to mitigate the largely distributed and intensely executed DDoS attack.  In order to subside this issue, I agreed to "promote" the information he wished to share in our 'Bad Ideas' forum in the form of a stickied thread that appears at the top of the thread listings within 'Bad Ideas,' which can be found here.  In return, he has agreed to cease the attack on The Sanctuary.  I am confident that avoyel is pleased with this solution and he has ensured us that we will not experience any further outages as a result of their actions.  This decision was solely my own, which Arnox has graciously agreed to respect and allow.

Though this may not seem ideal to some, it is the best short-term remedy that could be identified in order to provide a home for the recently displaced userbase of Totse, Totse2, and Zoklet and allow us to continue consistent, non-interrupted service.  We are exploring long-term solutions that will help mitigate future targeted attacks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter, and for trusting us to help foster this growing community.  Your continued patronage is appreciated.

If you wish to provide feedback regarding the events that surround this issue, please do so in this thread.

Sincerely,
Idiosyncrasy
