Where them text files at?
« on: May 27, 2014, 07:08:30 pm »
Where can I find or post textfiles? I was talking with Zharek in shoutbox and he was talking about how we need a better way to display them. I was thinking it would be cool if this site had the ability to convert textfiles into another format such as .jpg or gifs or something so they would be easier to open than a pdf but maybe we could still have the option.

It may be weird but if the textfiles are pretty much just a picture file wouldn't that make sharing the information easier?
tl;dr: idealism will not un-rape you.

Unless you have a special one in mind that Idio can get for you, you can pretty much consider all the past texts we had gone completely, courtesy of easy-e.

As to posting texts, why not just stick with threads?

They don't have to be gone. There are simple ways of getting them back. I know I can at least get the original &T files. &T2 might be harder but I think i can make it happen. at one point on an old system I actually made an archive of the entire site. these things aren't as hard as everyone makes them out to be.
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore.
Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore —
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

Something that needs to be decided is what way would you organise the text files. Not just categories, it would be good to have some sort of Content Management System (CMS) in place. Make it easier to add, edit, and delete files. You can't really do it all by hand, using HTML. Totse had some custom CMS Jeff Hunter wrote, that's why the text files are all formatted kinda akward.
