Winnie the Pooh could be banned from a Polish playground, after politicians labelled the character as a half-naked hermaphrodite who is an inappropriate role model to children.
The beloved bear was meant to be the namesake for a new park in Tuszyn, but his "dubious sexuality" and minimal clothing has led councillors to block the move.
During a heated debate, one woman was heard explaining how Pooh's unclear gender was manufactured by AA Milne, the author who created the honey-loving animal.
She said: "When the author turned 60, he cut off [Pooh's] testicles with a rusty razor blade because of his own identity issues."
Those opposed to Pooh have suggested that a Polish cartoon bear, Miś Uszatek, be used instead – principally because he is fully dressed.
Locals have lamented how their councillors are devoting so much time to such a trivial issue. One man told Polish reporters: "Winnie the Pooh is a bear with low intellect, and unfortunately, this is also evident in those who are concerned with this topic."
He then alluded to Pooh's addiction to honey in a rhyming Polish poem, and recited: "Winnie the Pooh is an alcoholic and a liar. He walks with no underwear and has cut off his testicles."
An official decision on Pooh's fate is yet to be made.
