The Class Action Rebate Thread
« on: October 17, 2014, 01:37:46 am »
This topic had a bit of popularity on Zoklet back in the day. Free money/stuff, usually small amounts but more if you can produce proof of purchase, etc. I just got a $200 pair of Rocky boots for free, which reminded me "Hey, you should probably make a thread."

There's plenty of places to find these. Here's one (post more if you know of any).

I was thinking just the other day that we should start this thread here.

How are you supposed to provide fake proof of purchase?

An easy method I've heard is some people using Firefox's firebug add-on to forge invoices for places like Amazon. There's probably tons of ways, really. I'd imagine photoshop and printing your own receipts with paper either purchased or stolen from a retailer are among them.

All you have to do is scan or take a picture of the receipts, as opposed to sending them in. Therefore all one has to do is scan a legit receipt and photoshop it.

If you have a neighbor, or just knew a house with similar enough siding, I wonder if this could really pay out or if you would be getting in over your head.

With big stuff/construction stuff like certainteed it'd probably be better for someone to seek out people who haven't heard of the lawsuit. Maybe post an ad saying they're a company rep or something, and then "perform inspections." Getting paid gets complicated at this point though. Maybe they'd have to pose as the property owners and get the rebates in their names and then issue their own check to the real property owner for a smaller amount. Or they might be able to weasel their way into some sort of contract, too, and basically charge a finder's fee.

I haven't read the certainteed one in a while, but I think they want to send an actual inspector to the house and then pay a repairman directly, so it'd get complicated.

Do you guys keep an organized folder on your computer with all your rebate info, or do you randomly get checks in the mail having forgot you had filled out a claim in the first place?
