telling people to get a life and/or gtfo the computer for 2 hours used to be a reasonable statement. rather technology augmenting our own abilities, it seems apparent to me, or at least from my interactions with people a few years younger than me, that technology is alienating people more and more every time some new social networking website comes out.

there are people i know, who are fairly normal, who are cockblocking themselves for online relationships, or something like "i talk to people online usually, my mom doesn't seem to understand that". a year or two ago a person who did something like this would be shunned, now we're in the mid 2010's where every 2 year old ends up physically attached to some shitty tablet phone with temple run on it inseparably. people have become so immersed in their parasitic technology that they can no longer distinguish the fantasy world they construct through typing from the immersion of actual people. e-relationships are approved and becoming normative.

a boy or girl spending countless hours constructing false images of people that are totally irrelevant to them in any way besides the few words they've written, having a 300$ computer living off them like a leech, providing with all the essential social nutrients of affection; hatred, humor, truly changing a person's view on others. the rectangular machine that loves you back.

it's saddening. maybe the singularity is up and coming, which is great for people like malice, but depressing to know that real human interaction will one day be eclipsed by the solipsism of the web.  :(

I had an epiphany about millenials while reading some thread you made in LLR about you breaking up with your girlfriend via text or facebook and crying about it. It kinda scared me, because I realized this is NORMAL to most kids these days and that's the way the world is heading. It's gonna cause people to become very alienated. As much as "le internet/social media brings us 2gether" it's only true when something massive and populist resonates within people and they feel compelled to jump on board. Look at "kony 2012" or whatever. That video is basically everything that's wrong with the internet and resulted in a guy going nuts and jacking off in traffic in san diego, probably because he couldn't deal with the new, real-fake world and realized he was a part of it.

There are MANY good things about the internet, outweighing the bad insurmountably but for kids growing up thinking internet interaction is "normal" and a substitute for actual human contact, it's definitely bad. Fuck, when I was a kid and we lived in a new rural area my mom used to tell me to hitchhike if I wanted to go somewhere. It seems kinda crazy in retrospect, imagine how many parents have been googling about the societal harms of innocuous things. In that way, the internet has been a tool in pushing a conservative agenda. I remember, probably 8-9 years ago a senator in the states passed a bill banning "crush porn" which is women stepping on animals in high heels. It's gross and sickening, but I'd figure cruelty to animal laws would cover that. It got passed because the constituents could google "crush porn" or whatever and see "omg, this is a thing!" and be outraged by it, therefore it must be banned. That might have been a bad example because I don't think people should kill animals like that but I think the circumstances of the bill are important.

The internet can be used for evil in that regard, much beyond overt "how 2 steal frum amazon???" or "CC dumps track 1 and 2!!!!" using it as a tool to manipulate stupid peoples emotions to push a freedom fucking agenda is the scariest thing about it.

That's what your thread about breaking up with your GF did to me sploo
God Bless
