A copy of what is called the worst video game ever made has received the top bid in an online auction that netted a New Mexico city $37,000 (£23,600).
The Atari ET game cartridge still in its original box sold for $1,537 (£981) on eBay.
The cartridge was one of nearly 800 Atari games dug up in April after being buried more than 30 years in a landfill in Alamogordo.
The discovery lent proof to decades-old rumours that the game's manufacturer buried millions of unsold copies after it was dubbed a complete flop.
Some 100 games from the vintage haul were auctioned by Alamogordo officials. Others were kept by the city as mementos, while more were donated to museums around the world.
ET failed to gain any traction in the gaming market after being rushed out to coincide with the release of Steven Spielberg's hit 1982 film.
The mystery behind why the games were dumped in the landfill inspired a documentary film by Microsoft Corp's Xbox Entertainment Studios.
