My point? No you misunderstand. There are very good reasons for news articles being simple. Didn't really have a point.

Grammatically, the proper wording would be
News articles are written on about an 8th grade reading level, and even that sounds weird.
News articles are written on an 8th grade writing level is succinct and to the point.
I don't misunderstand you, and I agree with you. Bottom line is that articles in general, especially news articles are written with the intention that anyone with a basic level of reading and comprehension skills can grasp the information and/or content. How they disseminate content is a whole other ballgame.
