The 4-Hour Body Thread
« on: October 09, 2014, 07:14:10 pm »
Over the past year, due to work and other things (mostly excuses), I let myself slip; I gained about 15 lbs or so and lost some muscle mass and cardio ability.

I'm a little less busy these days, but I've mostly focused on becoming more efficient and productive rather than trying to cut back on output. I want to get back in tip-top shape, and have been reading up on the 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss.

Has anyone else utilized these methods, and if not does anyone want to commit to trying it out with me? This thread can serve as a repository of results and encouragement.

I'll go ahead and do my first post, then.

My understanding of biochemistry is shaky on the best of days, but from what I can tell it sounds like Ferriss did his homework on most techniques he mentions in his book. I semi-started the slow-carb diet on Wednesday, and more fully tried it today.

I stuck to eggs, beans, salmon, and steamed veggies all day, and I included the light workouts pre-meal that he recommends. I know I'm barely scratching the surface of the book, but I figure that I can start with the bare minimum the first week or so and see where it goes.

Yes, maintain a calorie deficit and you will lose weight.  It's not rocket science.

I think the better goal is to find ways to lose weight with minimal lifestyle disruptions and minimal effort, though. Not necessarily out of laziness, rather it boosts productivity.

Okay, so I'm one week into the method. I can say for sure that my energy levels are much higher than usual. Pretty much through the roof, actually. And the energy lasts all day, instead of the slumps I get in the afternoon.

Weight is down 1.5 lbs, which is not bad for the total lack of effort going into this. Apparently more significant gains happen in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks, so I'll keep you updated.
