nonexistence
« on: June 01, 2014, 02:01:27 am »
I was reading a post on here (i think it was by nightshift) about existence and how we all have experienced nonexistence so why fear death. This got me thinking and here are my musings.

It is true that everyone and everything has, for lack of a better word, "experienced" a state of nonexistence and had a sort of pre-existence if you will. After this stage the subject will undergo existence. After this stage it will enter after existence or nonexistence. The conclusions I draw from this are that 1. everything that exists now was essentially "set-up" to exist by everything that existed before it. 2. Existence is the shortest stage of the cycle. 3. when something is no longer in existence it lends what was its form to the form of another something.

Any thoughts?
tl;dr: idealism will not un-rape you.

We haven't perceived non-existence with the senses or retained memory of it in our brains, we never experienced it in the way we experience life.

People fear death for several reasons besides fear of the unknown, these include fear of causing distress to the people they leave behind, fear of a painful death and fear of not accomplishing their goals in life.

I don't really understand how your conclusions relate to the hypothesis but to be frank this idea feels half baked to begin with with such large stretches being made.

what people?  youre assuming facts not in evidence.  first and foremost the fear of death is a natural instinct ingrained into the deepest programming of every organism on this planet. some people could give a flying flip about death or dying, others even prefer it...seeking out activities that they hope will bring them closer to dying.
