Yeah I agree with spec, if security software actually detected malware it'd usually give you options as to what to do with it, and it'd be obvious that an antivirus application YOU installed detected it.
that's a popular scam, usually a browser exploit will infect your computer with malware that reports all sorts of threats (that aren't really there) and redirects you to a page where you can buy software that'll 'clean' them
