IRC Server
« on: June 12, 2014, 04:53:55 am »
Well, it's finally here. Edify's been kind enough to set up an IRC server for us all. There's now a new tab next to the "Home" tab called "Chat". People who want to use their own clients though can use the IP, 188.165.124.149 to get to the server. However, I've also set up a subdomain for it so we won't have to type all those numbers in, but that won't take effect though till tomorrow or the day after. The name for the subdomain will be irc.intosanctuary.com

The rules for the IRC will be the same as the Site Rules. Well, I mean, whichever site rules can apply to an IRC anyway. So that means no giving out PI or posting bestiality or etc. You know the drill.

Bans from the site will, most of the time, not transfer over to the IRC and vice versa. Since edify has chosen to comply with our rules, he will be receiving full support from the staff as well.

And that should be it. See you in relay chat.

EDIT: Server has been taken offline due to unknown reasons. Our official subdomain has also been removed from it.

Bump.

We now have a vacancy for an official IRC server if anyone would like to fill it.

Some form of chat is better than none. I took the liberty of setting up #totse on irc.oftc.net

oftc.net also hosts #tor so it was a good choice imo. I can shift privileges over to Arnox or whomever as I won't be able to 'mod' the channel.

Tested it, and it works
Das ist des Jägers Ehrenschild,
daß er beschützt und hegt sein Wild,
weidmännisch jagt, wie sich’s gehört,
den Schöpfer im Geschöpfe ehrt.

Whoops. Didn't see this reply. Thanks for setting this up, God.

Why not the venerable slashnet #totse? Sure yoss will yell at you for talking about community websites, but that's part of the ambiance.

the whitelist has gone through many permutations over the years but AFAIK for the last era to present the strictest requirement has been a registered nick. The usual process is that ond or 0x will spam the channel in their usual way and it'll get whitelisted, they'll show up under new handles and post as usual, and after a few weeks the whitelist goes away. Really it's become kind of a way to mark the passage of time, like the changing of seasons or something.

You could ask 'why not the chat box' as well. Intosanctuary needs an IRC server FOR intosanctuary. I didn't see anyone else taking the initiative, so I did. Your suggestion is a tad aged.
