Liberty Caps
« on: October 21, 2014, 07:35:04 pm »
So in a few days, I'm probably going mushroom hunting. I've learnt where to find them, how to identify them and all that.. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

However, this will be the first hallucinogen, hell first actual drug even, I'll ever try. I have no idea how much to take, or really, what to really expect of it? I used to be afraid of tripping, thinking the hallucinations would scare the shit out of me. But really, I've gotten over that. I'm really up for it now.

So I guess my question is, how do I go about tripping for the first time on liberty caps? From what I've read it's a nice shroom to start on. How much would it take for a total noob? Should I dry it first, or is fresh always better?

I'll admit I don't know much about this specific strain of shroom, or even much about shrooms in general, but I would dry them first. You get a humidifier and the process doesn't take much time. I would think you would want a nice breakthrough dose, my first trip was 2 grams and I was very much able to handle it. Do some whippits for maximal effect.

de-humidifier, you mean...and specifically a food dehydrator with the heating element removed.  Putting them on a piece of paper on a high shelf and waiting a few days does the same thing, but takes much longer.  or you could do the dessicant-in-a-pan-with-a-screen-in-a-bag thing.

Right, I'll dry them. It's probably not going to be for the very near future anyway, so I'm just gonna do the glass jar with paper towels and a baggy of desiccant, I think. I'll have to be quick with picking though, heard it'll be freezing by the end of this month and that's a death sentence for the little baldies.

Around here, they are really easy to find. They often grow in my yard, field, and driveway.. They have a pretty unique appearance particular to only them.. pretty sure on this, or at least I'm fairly certain they are the only mushroom that has that then stem, bell shaped cap in areas where they exist, so.. there shouldn't be much confusion. If you have a smart phone of any kind, there is a plethora of mushroom identification apps out there.. I personally use RMushroomsLite, which has a pretty descriptive database on multiple ways of testing your shrooms for identification.. Beats carrying around a big ass book like in the old days.. unless your phone dies. I do recommend getting an actual book/guide however, just as good reference.

Also, depending on your area, I highly suggest Laughing Gems.. they're and orange mushroom that grows on the side of tree stumps (or thats where I've always managed to find them).. a little more potent and fun than the liberty caps. Then again, I only had liberty caps once.. about all other times were gems. That could be unreasonable bias.. Good luck nonetheless, and remember don't eat anything you cant optimally verify..  dont wanna die or anything, right?

And one last thing, had to google to make sure it was still up and running but the website called Shroomery.com is an excellent resource. That's where I gained all my shroom hunting knowledge as a novice.. definitely worth looking into, and if your not sure about something.. you can usually post a pic over there and they can usually verify what you've found. Happy Hunting!
The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.

Yeah, they should be really common over here as well. They are prevalent in areas with a lot of sand, they grow in fields there. Plus, the liberty cap does look kind of unique, only a few other shrooms look like it. Most of them miss the typical nipple. And as long as you look for them in fields and meadows, the species that do look like the liberty cap are non-poisonous.

Shroomery is a very good resource indeed. Lot of info to be found there. Now all I need is some time to go pick the damn things. I'm drowning in work right now, so it'll probably be at least a few days until I get a chance to go out..

From what I've read, laughing gems in Europe are less psychoactive than those in the US. So I think I'll stick to liberty caps. Thanks for the tip though!

Ideally you guys should be taking spore prints and matching them up to the color of the spores of the mushroom you are looking for, but I know not everyone wants to wait two days....it could save your liver

Went hunting for a first time today. Found some really, really close lookalikes. They were too gray in colour, so I don't think they were libs. Went looking in grass fields, but there was not a single shroom, let alone lib, in sight. The forest is full of mushrooms though. The weather is really warm for the time of year though, it's still 23° during the day. Libs don't like that, or so I've heard. Will go looking again when it cools down a bit.
