Around here, they are really easy to find. They often grow in my yard, field, and driveway.. They have a pretty unique appearance particular to only them.. pretty sure on this, or at least I'm fairly certain they are the only mushroom that has that then stem, bell shaped cap in areas where they exist, so.. there shouldn't be much confusion. If you have a smart phone of any kind, there is a plethora of mushroom identification apps out there.. I personally use RMushroomsLite, which has a pretty descriptive database on multiple ways of testing your shrooms for identification.. Beats carrying around a big ass book like in the old days.. unless your phone dies. I do recommend getting an actual book/guide however, just as good reference.
Also, depending on your area, I highly suggest Laughing Gems.. they're and orange mushroom that grows on the side of tree stumps (or thats where I've always managed to find them).. a little more potent and fun than the liberty caps. Then again, I only had liberty caps once.. about all other times were gems. That could be unreasonable bias.. Good luck nonetheless, and remember don't eat anything you cant optimally verify.. dont wanna die or anything, right?
And one last thing, had to google to make sure it was still up and running but the website called Shroomery.com is an excellent resource. That's where I gained all my shroom hunting knowledge as a novice.. definitely worth looking into, and if your not sure about something.. you can usually post a pic over there and they can usually verify what you've found. Happy Hunting!
