Encounter with a Poltergeist in Old Montreal
« on: September 15, 2014, 02:32:53 pm »

I remember back in 1978 I was attending a 3-day convention at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal and I slept in an ancient, huge house in Old Montreal for a few nights while I was there. All three nights I had direct contact with a poltergeist and witnessed/experienced some truly amazing events.

On the first night, there was a framed cross under glass in a frame hanging on the wall across from my bed. The cross was green, mottled and pock-marked with age, but it looked to be made of iron. In the middle of the night I woke up to a huge sense of dread, and when I opened my eyes the first thing my eyes were drawn to was this cross on the wall. It emanated what I can only describe as an actual current or field of dread and evil, almost like a fire projects heat; I could feel the bad energy literally pulsing from it and it even made the hairs on my arms and whole body stand up as I was looking at it. I got up out of the bed and walked over to the frame and put my hand on the glass and it felt normal, just like a normal object, but feelings of dread and loss and pure evil continued to emanate from it and intensified when touched. I yelled out to my mother, who was sleeping in the next room, and I told her about what was happening with the cross on the wall and she told me it was just a bad dream and to go back to sleep, but I kept insisting there was no way I could sleep with that "thing" radiating something I can only describe as pure evil or the worst kind. She argued some more, but I wouldn't budge on my feelings and demanded she get rid of it. She finally took the frame off the wall and went outside with it, then a few minutes later came back empty-handed. I asked her where the cross was and she told me she buried it in a pile of garbage outside just down the street and told me not to mention it at all to the householder in case they'd be mad. After that, I slept peacefully. When I woke up in the morning, the first thing my eyes opened to was the cross back on the wall. I literally freaked out and ran to my mother and brought her in to see it, and when she came in and saw it her face went white. Then she went into the kitchen and I followed her in there and demanded to know why she put the cross back on the wall since she knew it terrified me the night before and she said she didn't put it back. Somehow it got back on the wall in just a few hours, and the householder was not even home.

The next night, I slept in a different room, because this giant house had over 10 bedrooms in it. While I was sleeping, I heard noises coming from my mother's room. I ignored it for awhile, but when they didn't go away, I decided to go to my mother's room as see what was making the noise. I opened my mother's bedroom door and peered into the gloom inside and saw movement. She was sleeping, and when my eyes adjusted, I could see that her entire bed was literally floating in mid air about 4 feet off the floor with her sleeping right on it fast asleep. The bed rocked back and forth gently and from side to side as if it was a boat on water. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing and remember hoping against all hope it was just a dream and I'd snap out of it any second, but it wasn't a dream and it kept floating there right in front of me. I cautiously walked up to the foot of the bed and squatted down and the legs were actually floating four feet off the floor, all four of them. I even passed my hand underneath one leg to ascertain for a definite fact what I was seeing and my hand went right under and nothing at all was there between the floor and the leg, just air. I stood up and walked to the side of the bed and shook my mother by the shoulder but she wouldn't wake up, and she normally wakes up very easily when disturbed, but not this time. I shook her harder, then harder, then, thinking she was already dead or something I literally shook her like  a ragdoll screaming for her to wake up, but she wouldn't. Her eyes were white and her face was slack. Then, a few seconds later, while I was still shaking her like a ragdoll, the bed suddenly dropped like a rock and made a huge bang on the floor coming down, and as soon as the bed hit the floor her eyes opened like window blinds and she was instantly awake. I yelled at her that her bed had just been floating off the floor, and she told me I must just be having a bad dream, and all I could say is, no! no! no! It was really floating! And that's because it WAS really floating.

The last night, we were just about to go to bed and I was in my room, and I heard a huge commotion going on in the living room, which was right across from the room I was sleeping in. Just then, my mother ran into my room and told me to shut the door and don't open it for any reason and not to come out, and she refused to say why, and then she went back out and closed the door. After about two minutes, I gently opened the door and peeked out, and I could see right into the living room and I could see large pieces of furniture sliding by themselves across the floor, and nickknacks were flying off the shelves by themselves like bullets and pulverizing and spraying particles when they exploded against the opposite wall, some even making holes in the wall as they shot in. My Mom was standing in the middle of the living room and telling whatever it was to go away - that we weren't scared of it. And she also had a Bible in her hand and started reading from it, and that's when the shit really hit the fan. Suddenly, a large couch which had been on the right hand wall shot out and across the living room by itself and was heading right for her and she jumped out of the way and it just missed her and smashed against the opposite wall making a huge crashing sound and making a big hole in the wall there. Then all kinds of large objects in the living room started going around and across the room like they were caught inside a tornado, and everything was smashing and booming and crashing around and she has to drop the Bible jump out and into the hallway. Then I opened the door full and ran to her and she yelled at me to get out fast. Get out! Get OUT! GET OUT!! is all she kept saying. So I ran down the hallway with her right behind me, and when I got to the end and grabbed the handle of the front door, I unlocked the deadbolt with my other hand and the lock visibly opened, but when I turned the knob and pulled on the door it wouldn't budge. It was solid as a rock and not even any play in it. So I twisted on the deadbolt lever again and again and kept turning and yanking on the handle but it just would not open, even though I could plainly see that the deadbolt was already withdrawn. My mother was pressing up hard against my back and screaming to get out, but I yelled over her that it wouldn't open and kept trying. When I looked back down the hall, there was a shape coming down it, floating just above the floor and coming fast toward where we were. It was like looking through heat off a fire... a fuzzy, transparent-like mass about 7 feet high and four feet wide, and it emanated that exact same feeling of extreme dread and evil and despair, just like the cross, and it got into my head telepathically as it rushed down the hallway toward us and tried to incapacitate me mentally to keep me from working at the door, but I put all the willpower I had left to force and with all my might wrenched on the door and it came open so easily that I fell back onto my mother and we kind of tangled up for a moment, and the thing was still approaching at high speed up the hallway toward us, so I grabbed my Mom and pulled her with all my might through the doorway and we fell onto the landing just outside the door together, then we scrambled up at once and ran like hell down the steps to the street. Halfway down the steps I looked back up to the front door and it was right there in the doorway, hovering stationary right there in the open doorway, and in that second it sent me a telepathic message that said it wanted me to come back. We ran down the street and took a taxi to the bus station to go home, leaving all of our belongings in the house.

About a week later, my Mom sent two ministers to check out the house and attempt to retrieve our belongings, and when they came back they told her they also were attacked in the house by the entity within minutes of entering and were forced to flee. We were finally able to contact the home owner a couple of says later, who returned out stuff to us. We later found out she was into witchcraft and voodoo and all kinds of black magic. I have never returned to that house, or even that area, since, and I still have bad dreams about the encounters.

This is an absolutely true story with no embellishments.

Good post. What/who do you think could have caused the poltergeist activity? Or could it have been an entity I'd some sort?

Holy shit. Nice story. You should've won the 2013 Best Fiction Story Award.
My will, as it were.
To Zek, get over the fucking kittens man.

To RisiR, you'll always be my favourite hater.

To -SpectraL, you're one of the only people here who can insult Arnox without ramming it down his throat.

To Arnox, fuck you.
