How To Get Free Music
« on: May 10, 2014, 12:56:20 pm »
So apparently, Zoklet is currently at a loss when it comes to something basic like obtaining free music (Probably might have helped the OP though if he actually posted his request in the correct forum). But never fear, denizens of Sanctuary. You are not going to have this problem for I am going to tell you how.

Now, there's three ways of going about this. One of those methods was already mentioned in that thread, and that was through torrents. This is good if you want to download whole albums. Not so good at all for anything else. Also, some albums may very well either be unavailable due to there not being enough seeders or too obscure to be posted as a torrent. This is the only method they were able to give.

The second way now, is through use of Youtube. This is probably the simplest method of getting music although sometimes, Youtube may also not have a particular song and some songs are poor quality. In order to get music from Youtube, simply use this site or any other site like it.

The third method is the most reliable way of getting your music. For it, we use Grooveshark. Now, Grooveshark is a website that you can go to to listen to any song they have in their database (which is QUITE extensive). They do not, however, allow you to actually download the songs themselves from the site. But we're going to get past that little hiccup by using a small Chrome extension. You can find it here. How it works is, when you've installed it, you go to Grooveshark, pull up your desired song and play it. When you do this, a page-like icon will appear in the bottom left hand corner of your browser. Simply click that and download the song.

And those are the three methods. Torrents for bulk album downloading, Grooveshark for everything else, and Youtube for last ditch attempts to get a song.

I download most things I want and use spotify to listen to music I have on my HDD then when I want to stream something, I'll use spotify. If not on there I use Youtube or soundcloud.

You don't have to be a student of Sun Tzu to realize that going face-down ass-up for a bunch of paedo's is a bad move for a number of reasons. I hope the final dimming embers of Totse aren't finally extinguished by a few kiddie-fiddlers. Even death by furries would be better than that.

Besides Youtube, you should explain a bit more.

I haven't purchased music since I obtained a smart phone a year or 2 ago. I use the youtube-mp3 method as described in OP. The downside to this is that the mp3 never contains proper meta-data like artist, song name, etc and I'm generally too lazy to fill that in. The Vevo videos tend to have the highest quality, being the "official" channel, but being the "official" also means they have all the dumb interludes in music videos (I've moved towards top 40 as an adult...). Pro-tip: search for official "lyric" videos.

I haven't purchased music in 12 years. Many of my CDs were stolen during parties etc or are packed away since I no longer use the format. It is horrible for an audiophile to be that way but the convenience factor makes me all good with it. I have a Music Hall MMF-5 turntable that has its moments but FLAC is the way to go. I currently use MusicBee for my music manager that natively plays FLAC. I had used Pandora since it was introduced and free. I kept up with it because it did turn me onto a few things but with current cost at 4$ a month I said fuck it. I prefer annual bills so I don't get an accidental overdraft.
Sometimes...you can cry until there's nothing wet in you. You can scream and curse to where your throat rebels and ruptures. You can pray, all you want, to whatever god you think will listen. And, still it makes no difference. It goes on, with no sign as to when it might release you. And you know that if it ever did relent...it would not be because it cared.
