Nothing is wrong with brown cane sugar. Lots of different curries and other south Asian dishes call for different types of sugar as well. I actually love sweet foods which is funny to me as I usually don't like dessert.

I use light brown cane sugar most of the time in sauces instead of white sugar. Sometimes I use raw unfiltered honey.

I've had raspberry jalapeno jam. It's a slightly weird yet defnitely tasty combination. I also used to eat peanut butter and honey sandwiches instead of PB&J when I was younger.
