Reinvent Yourself / Re: Do you even lift?

dude...u might want to see a dr about that heart thing.  if your at-rest rate is that high there is something seriously out of kilter.

Don't you think I've seen several cardiologists about it, being prescribed pills and had dozens of Angiograms, Echos and Holter Monitors done?

People act like Doctors are these pillars of God like knowledge, caring, and restorative energy. They aren't. The basically said I was SOL and to piss off.

Why do smaller religions like Scientology and Judaism seem to have such successful adherents? Jews pretty much run the world, and half of Hollywood is involved in Scientology. Kinda weird how their followers have such success. Does the sense of certainty being in a religion brings help them concentrate and motivate themselves? Is it due to networking opportunities?

Hm. What exercise routine do you go through?

None really, I mean there's no sheet I have - have to do so many of any particular exercise, just doing what I can.

elaborate on 'cardio'

that could mean anything from spanking the monkey for 40 minutes to running through a black neighborhood wearing gold jewelry

Cardio = elevated heart rate. Basically my rest heart rate is 90-100 bpm, which is high and awful but due to a fucked up heart operation and low blood pressure. You gotta get your heart rate above 130 or so, and leave it there for 40 minutes (in reality I have a break or two). Most of the time I do it on a stationary bike - low impact, and I can watch youtube while I work out, so it's not wasted time. Otherwise I do running (I can't run very long, so alternate running with walking), or work a threadmill or  rowing machine at the gym.

I've noticed I can get my heart rate up to the 150s now without too much discomfort. When I started 150 left me exhausted and feeling slightly nauseous. Making solid progress. Feel great.

Printed Matter / Re: What are you reading?

I started American Psycho. Must get back into it. At the minute I'm reading Might Is Right by Ragnar Redbeard, it's good, but kinda repetitive. Listening to The Great Gatsby in Audiobook format on my phone, it's brilliant, full of great characters and very true, witty, observations.

Help & Suggestions / Re: Where them text files at?
« on: May 27, 2014, 11:56:44 pm »
Something that needs to be decided is what way would you organise the text files. Not just categories, it would be good to have some sort of Content Management System (CMS) in place. Make it easier to add, edit, and delete files. You can't really do it all by hand, using HTML. Totse had some custom CMS Jeff Hunter wrote, that's why the text files are all formatted kinda akward.

Money Money Money... / Frugal Tips
« on: May 27, 2014, 09:23:00 pm »
Share frugal living tips here.

I'll start.
Try to buy things in bulk and in sales. Avoid convenience stores.
Learn to cook. It's cheaper than eating out.
If you can, dumpster dive. Food, especially meat, is good far past it's expiry date.
Homebrew wine and beer. It makes alcohol much less expensive.
Ditch TV and Netflix and Xbox live. Do everything online, torrent shows.

Everything *NIX / VirtualBox is fantastic
« on: May 27, 2014, 09:11:47 pm »
Started an online course (Excel Expert), and had to get Windows (ugh) working. Got a cracked one on TPB, got MS Office, a crack for Office, and am running Windows (ugh) on one monitor of my Linux computer like a motherfucker. Although VirtualBox supports shared folders, I just use dropbox for sharing files between the two systems. It's much easier. The only thing is VirtualBox isn't so great for gaming, but that's obvious I think. Just wanted to recommend this free software.

If you had to commit one book to memory or risk it being lost, what one would it be?

Reinvent Yourself / Do you even lift?
« on: May 23, 2014, 10:04:57 pm »
As above. Lifting is probably the best thing you can do for yourself. I've been lifting for the last two months, and so far I've gained a slight bit of muscle, and lost a bit of fat. The main difference though is how great I feel. I feel happier, more confident, and have less joint pains (though lots of muscle pain). The saying is no pain no gain - that applies to muscle pain, not joint pain, muscle pain is good, joint pain is just bad and you need to fix that.

The last two weeks I've also started doing 40 minutes cardio every night. Cardio is great, but you can't be afraid to sweat. I lose about 200grams of body weight a day.
