Help & Suggestions / Re: Should a new site be created by Idio?

Idio, you should just reopen totse2.

What's up man!

Unfortunately, totse2 is not under my ownership. Thus, my thinking for totse3 started.

Didn't we have two domains (.com and .net)? Does easy own both of them?

IMO the old posts and the layout are of little importance if the alternative is a fresh new site anyway, but I was just thinking that reopening totse2 with one of the original domains would be a slightly better start than a new name.

Is it possible that the numbers are down because of summer? Maybe in the fall they will bounce back.

That's generally the opposite trend of internet forums

If I remember correctly, we had a summer lull and a winter boom one year on totse2 that we attributed to the largely high school aged userbase being on vacation with parents and/or just outside more in general. Of course to quantify this, it helps if the website has been running for over a year.

I think the fact that the users in question haven't taken the opportunity to defend their contribution to this forum speaks volumes about their attitude towards it.

I finished the main story in Yakuza 4 and it was as crazy as I expected. Although the story started off slow, I was glued to every cut scene by the second half of the game and even characters I thought I hated ended up becoming likable as the reasons for their actions became clear. Yakuza 4 may be Japanese through and through, but there's a distinct lack of crybaby faggots and bizarre hairstyles (which is good) and even the main female characters are tough as fuck and willing to fight their own battles.

Right now I'm addicted to Dynasty Warriors 8. There's literally hundreds of hours of content in this game and whilst it's not particularly difficult (and by nature will only get easier with progress) it never seems to get boring unlocking a new overpowered weapon with its own unique moveset to murder thousands of retarded AI an hour.

Also played and finished the co-op mode of Farcry 3 with my stepson, which was even worse than I imagined. It was just 5 hours of tightly scripted, holding off infinitely respawning enemies whilst waiting for a door to open, a lift to come up, a winch to move a piece of machinery etc, with a tiny pool of boring, unsatisfying weapons. The single player mode is open world and has crafting and shit in it so I may come back to that though.

I recently played and finished Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii and I can't fault it, it's consistently innovative, fun to play and the difficulty is well balanced from start to finish. I probably won't replay it but that's more to do with my own tastes than the game itself.

I finally decided to give Skyrim a go, played it for about 3 hours but I just can't see myself liking this game. The world design is fucking horrible and, for all intents and purposes, linear due to half the map being seemingly taken up by impassible rock formations and mountains with variably apparent paths between points of interest. I like the enemy design and the combat is solid (maybe even an improvement on the combat of it's sister series, Fallout) but travelling to new areas feels so scripted and drawn out and the story is so much high fantasy bullshit that I know it would be a chore for me to play this game.

Right now I'm playing Yakuza 4. I'm 6 hours in and impressions so far are that the combat is fun and has major nostalgia factor (for me) due to the near death of the beat em up genre in recent years. Yakuza is a series that definitely needs to exist IMO. The story is a little overbearing at first, with cutscenes coming in great big chunks, way more often that the actual gameplay. Eventually the violence does pick up though, Exploration is surprisingly fun, with an extensive list of minigames and collectible locker keys scattered around that reward you with shitloads of different items that actually make it worth it. There's even a typically Japanese relationship system involving Hostess bar girls that I probably won't touch beyond the side quests, but demonstrates the sheer volume of content in this game. One of my favourite distractions outside of the main storyline atm is going to bars and trying as many drinks on the menu until I get refused service, you get experience points for getting hammered and being drunk in public seems to increase the frequency of hostile encounters. I'm really enjoying the game so far and hoping the combat stays interesting through to the end.

all devil may cry i play 10 mins at a friends once that about it portal that another assasins creed is another to be honest i go for games that have a guy with an RPG on the cover :)

I've never played an Assassin's Creed game either, but I watched somebody playing Assassin's Creed 3 recently and it actually pushed me to buy a copy. I'd been filtering this series out due to it's huge dudebro following and being published by Ubisoft, but from what I saw I'd say the games are definitely worth a punt preowned.

I was watching some old Zero Punctuation reviews yesterday and in his review of the Ocarina of Time remake for the 3DS, Yahtzee confesses that he never played OoT on the N64, which for a game critic is like a music critic saying he's never listened to Sgt. Pepper's or OK Computer. This got me thinking about hyped games and franchises I still haven't got round to playing.

For a start, I've never played a Super Smash Bros game, which is strange because I played my N64 til the wheels came off back when the series started and used to play lots of multiplayer games with my brothers and friends. SSB should've been an obvious buy but I never paid it any attention. Even now I own every nintendo home console from the snes to the Wii (not including the virtual boy :P), there has always been something further up on my buy list.

Another series I've never touched is Elder Scrolls. In recent years my attitude towards high fantasy has gone from hatred to indifference which probably explains a lot, but now I have Skyrim in my backlog (bought it for pennies in a charity shop) perhaps I'll get around to seeing what the fuss is about.

Anime / Re: My favorite anime would have to be...........
« on: June 27, 2014, 03:31:32 pm »
Bartender is my favourite anime because it's probably the only adult oriented anime that's ever engaged me from start to finish. No super powers, no guns, no swords, no mindless killing and no fanservice, just excellently written stories.

Somewhere towards the opposite end of the anime spectrum is Kaiji. Still no moe, harem and pantsu shit, but this anime is tense. It's about a normal, shit-scared guy gambling with his life to wipe his debts with the odds stacked against him. Watching the first series of this over two days was actually the first time I broke a sweat watching something on TV.
