I was just as curious as the next guy when Jennifer Lawrence's nudes and a bunch of other celebrity nudes were leaked the other day and now social media is "making an example" of the situation in regards to people sharing private pictures and "hacking" etc. A lot of people (mostly female) have been slamming anyone who dares to say anything along the lines of celebrities shouldn't have nude pictures of themselves on their computers or take them...
I say, let them do whatever they want, they are human beings just like the rest of us BUT for them to be surprised that this kind of shit happened to them... really? Being an actress or famous makes you a huge target for this kind of stuff and I just am not understanding why they felt so "safe". In black and white terms of right and wrong, yes it was wrong for their privacy to be invaded but am I the only one who thinks it's a little wonky that the women affected and their publicists weren't more prepared for something like this or are their heads just too far up their bums?

I always wonder why anyone would think anything is safe when it's uploaded to some obscure server somewhere.
I'm sure the summer intern already has a collection.
-
People are generally lazy as fuck when it comes to securing their data, no matter if it's nudes passwords credit cards or other sensible information.
Storing any information on a cloud server that isn't in your possession and expecting it to somehow be safe has and will never work out. Security through obscurity is deemed to fail and this has been demonstrated over and over again

High-profile citizens need to be more careful with their online security than the average joe. These people should've taken some more precautions. Use TrueCrypt or some shit.
-
Or they should just start walking around in the nude. Problem solved.

That is what I was thinking and I am surprised to not see more of this opinion shared. Guess it just shows that money can't fix all of your problems

When you read some article in the news about this anywhere, non of them ever mention how maybe, just maybe, if you're famous and upload pictures on the internet with a cock in your mouth bad things can happen. Obviously, it's the hackers fault yes, but next time maybe take pictures, print them and keep them safe in a drawer or something. Of course, they say there will be legal action and what not, and of course these suits go through because they're rich and famous. Any other non-celebrity woman losing her career over some tit pics? Hah, who gives a shit. Katniss Everdeen nudes? Aw hell naw, get the FBI on that shit.

Totally... maybe they start to feel untouchable, I mean, I am sure all celebrities do at some point but it is pretty ignorant in my opinion. Being tug material to men worldwide blatantly makes you a "target" and I don't know how they didn't realize that and how their supporters are acting as if they get some special treatment in the privacy department because of their status - normal everyday people get their shit lurked on and private pictures shared against their knowledge all the time. I agree with finding other outlets besides online storage for stuff like that.
The kind of ironic message rearing it's head here is that although these women are insanely hot and have all the resources in the world to stay beautiful, that they're still normal looking chicks (well, above average in some cases obviously) but they're demanding to be treated like royalty over this. I guess I just prefer when people , no matter who they are or their status, hop off their high ass horses and show their approachable down-to-earth side when things go awry.

I just think people should not be morons, they take photos using apps or upload them and do not realise how unsecured the image hosts are and that it would be easy for hackers to access those photos or videos.
Hackers have a field day doing this and some make money from the photos whilst others just leak them to be assholes

There are shitloads of stories on the internet about women having awful things done to them, including the same "violation of privacy" and even worse.....and nothing happens. There is no justice. But when a celebrity goddess has something happen OMFG YOU BETTER FIX IT. Some guy got 10 years in prison for leaking Scarlet johanson nudes. Does that happen to people who leak Betty Sue girl next door nudes? Nope.
Privileged people get privileges.
Now go look at those titties.

Most non-celebs get their nudes and intimate videos "leaked" by ex's after they break up. This is a bit different because it's clearly a serious security breach by a company they pay to store their data securely.

No such thing as 'secure data'.

It all seems so strange to me. A lot of truth in this thread (uploading anything anywhere is NOT secure, tons of women are subjected to this treatment, celebrities aren't as special as they seem to think, etc.) but I think this whole unfortunate situation is created by our collective consciousness which, unfortunately, is full of delusion.

Hmm. There are many places now that have "anti-revenge porn laws", and uploading pictures or video of your ex's is punishable by law. Don't think that only celebrities are being considered by the court systems and lawmakers. It's an unfortunate fact that leaks of pornographic nature can have a negative impact a person's employment/social status, and these days if someone's costing you money you generally have a legal case.
But yeah. Maybe when we as a society get over the fact that we're all naked under our clothes, and most of us have some sexual desires and inclinations, this won't be a problem anymore. Embracing and expressing sexuality are beautiful acts, and a truly enlightened world will be open and honest in their sex without the hindrances of embarrassment and shame.
