Having a thanks count rack up is pretty silly to me. Maybe in some hidden thing like "user statistics" but definitely not right there like it was on zoklet.

Have you considered special badges for post count or time spent on here at least?

We have those already as posting ranks. You can view them all in the Site FAQ. Stars increase based on post count or you being an extra special member here.

This! As an act of civil disobedience we should all just quote the post we wish to thank and make a post thanking the person. If all of zoklet started clogging up the forum with these posts it could lead to a thanks button!
