Title: anyone else keep a 1lb thermite bag above their computer?

i cant be the only one

yeah, you are probably the only one.

but out of curiosity, what kind of ignitor are you using? how do you have it wired to go off?

Yea, I'd like to know that as well.

i have a car battery with a peice of magnesium camping starter clamped in aligator clamps one clamp on the starter and the other in the thermite pile if both ends touch it goes up.

...so if they raid the place and you aren't there, you go to prison? step your game up son...get a rat trap to make a tripline connector

motion sensor at front door with realtime alerts, cell phone wired up to the ignitor for remote detonation.

next problem

a rat-trap tripline is one of the easiest ones in the book...

run a starter solenoid off of a ford off of the battery to the thermite, and use one or 2 standard 12 volt relays to control the control side of the solenoid.

run the control side of the relays to the rat trap...use a staple or a nail to complete the circuit. takes less than an amp to fire the set up.

Real  men use linear shape charges coupled with and FAE to make sure there nothing left... Paranoid as fuck, Just get an external hard drive.

So what happens when a rat trips the rat line and baby raper's computer goes up for no reason?

I've given some serious thought to rigging a hard drive this way, encased in a firebrick enclosure so that only the hard drive goes up. But honestly, the level of shadiness I get up to doesn't warrant this kind of response.

What about a ventilated, Stand alone crucible?

Basically a fireproof container with your hard drive in it separate from your computer but still hooked up via extended connection lines. Something goes down and the "fire chamber" goes off incinerating anything inside of it without harming the outside areas.

Well, that would take care of my concern of overheating during normal use. Would still probably want halon or something going off simultaneously to be extra sure nothing else catches. The point being that it might go off when no one is ready to put out accidental fires.

A-you don't bait the trap...duhh...

B-then we don't have to deal with baby raper anymore!

the heat Thermite putts off can't be contained by a "crucible" so you would have to use another explosive...preferably one that is self-oxidizing. self oxidizing compounds tend to be fairly volatile, thermite isn't because of its extremely high activation temp.

I don't have this problem, but if I did I would keep said computer in my basement/dungeon, dig a 3 foot hole, run the wire up out of the hole, put the drive in a bag of thermite with an ignitor, and bury it. if it goes off, it won't trash my entire house.

What the hell is this supposed to do? You think you can ignite solid magnesium with a car battery and alligator clips?

1 pound is a bit excessive

I was actually considering setting up a small package, like 50-100g or something strapped to the top of a harddrive. I'd then have a small igniter of powdered magnesium in it, and through the magnesium some nichrome wire. I'd have the nichrome wire hooked up to a ~30v 16850 battery bank via a relay which would be connected to the GPIO ports of an arduino (or stellaris, or whatever else) board. I'd then have a small script that'd cause the arduino to power the relay that I could attach to an email service, finch, ssh, or something else.

What about a cast steel sewer pipe... I got one that's about 12" across and almost 3/4 thick... Put about 3' of sand in that bad boy and a controlled amount of thermitewith an appropriate vent (1" gas pipe insulated to vent outside) and you should bet alright with enough clearance.

Another option would be an electromagnet and a very well contained shape charge.

Easier to just use HardDrive Killer Pro 4 on it. One click... POOF.. GONE. Even the feds couldn't get anything from it after HDK4 finishes with it.
