Whenever I do something I wouldn't want anyone else to know about, like talking to my ex(who everyone hates) or browsing the deep web with Tor, I turn off the main light in my bedroom before proceeding. Is there a name for this? It feels like an unconscious decision as if the darkness will guard me from getting caught or something.
I started doing this a few months ago, now it's automatic. Is this something normal or am I totally fucked in the head?

Seeing as how this is all an experiment your fine.

It's neither normal, nor are you fucked. You just associate darkness with privacy and security, and the association has jumped to your habits.
So don't worry about it, unless people start to associate your lights going off with you being up to something.

I would say you have Evil Mastermind Syndrome, but seeing as you haven't mentioned a glowing plasma ball (http://www.pbase.com/nero_design/image/84211027/original) in your darkened room I don't think the label really applies.
Your little ritual just helps you dissociate yourself from activities that you think may be regarded as socially unpalatable; 'compartmentalizing' is quite a masculine trait and is not problematic when used in moderation. You turn your lights off, I wash my hands after posting on this site, it's essentially the same thing and doesn't indicate a mental health problem.
