Title: What am I looking at?
Post by: Slave of the Beast on November 02, 2014, 06:00:01 pm
So I was browsing LiveLeak as I often do and I came across this. (http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=33a_1413938972) It sounds American, looks human and probably has profound mental health issues. Beyond that words fail me.
Do your instincts tell you to embrace and pity this creature or kill it with fire?

I see this mostly as a result of individualism and our preoccupation with personal identity. We all get so caught up in the process of defining ourselves that we forget to just be as we are, from time to time. This looks like a pretty extreme case.
To wildly (also uselessly) speculate, it could be that this person grew up repressing their sexuality or gender issues and is now holding onto those things for dear life. But who knows. Sometimes it seems like a lot of trans* people suffer from very serious personality disorders, and honestly that shouldn't come as a surprise. To live your life knowing that somehow you're not yourself (or something) is hard. We should be grateful for what little sanity we have. There but for the grace of god go we...

I have to wonder how healthy it is for people like this to be putting themselves not only in the public sphere but the anonymous public sphere at that. Like I'm not saying anyone should be forbidden to upload a video or whatever, but I think trying to turn yourself into an internet personality(s?) when you're clearly unstable might not be the greatest idea.

Kinda seems like the internet personality thing is a symptom of the greater problems. And yeah it cannot be helping heh :(

Looks like something straight out of the original Batman series. I'm sure Batgirl would have beat the living shit out of her.

I agree with this, mostly. I think a lot of people don't really know what they're good at or what they're capable of, perhaps because life in the first world is easy enough that they've never really been tested, and obsess over individuality and the rejection of social norms because they unconsciously feel that it's the only way they'll be recognised.
