Not because of flooding but because apparently, all we're getting right now is people registering alt accounts.
Yeah, no more. Until I start actually advertising, it will remain closed. We haven't gotten any new members here since a month ago at least. It may be lifted sooner but I don't know. We'll see.
EDIT: If anyone however wants to recommend someone for registration, I will be happy to do that. Simply put in a request here and I will PM you for further details and questions.

There has been no growth of the community and their won't be until we actually start showing up on Google's radar and/or advertising. It will be a while before the former happens and the latter is being worked on.

Have you signed up for Google Webmaster Tools (http://www.google.com/webmasters/)? That would give you the best picture of any keywords or outside links that are leading people here, and it's free.
We're on Google. I first tried "site:intosanctuary.com (https://www.google.com/#q=site:intosanctuary.com)" with 16,700 results, so we're obviously indexed. Then I tried "old school new school fool school (https://www.google.com/#q=old+school+new+school+fool+school)" and we're the sixth result on the first page. The reason why? Because it's something unique to this site. If we want to be indexed for anything proper, then the content has to be here first. Yeah there is a bunch of drivel, but there's even more drivel about the drivel, and less unique content that would bring someone here.
"Totse" or "free speech forum" will probably not yield much because we're not optimized for those terms. A home landing page would help with that. So would just using those terms in our regular threads, besides the "we don't have free speech anymore" garbage. It doesn't look like we can create thread tags, which would help. Not sure about any other site metatags.
Advertising is one thing, having something to advertise is another.

Arnox this is your problem. The above quote convo is something that should take place excluseively in a moderator only forum before any decision has been made. When I see equinamity pop into this thread and tell you that she thinks it would be better to keep it open that completely undermines the op because it shows that the Admin didnt discuss this with the mods and it seems weak of the administration to not hold a consistent view. It may sound fascist but i feel that on a forum the moderators should take Admins word as god unless the admin is legitimately making terrible decisions.
What you guys need to do is this:
1. Have your own board for the mods to discuss site policy and whatnot.
2. The administration and moderation team stays consistent when posting about site policy. (essentially if you question arnox's decision talk about it privately not out here in the open)
3. Work closely with idio to get this google search stuff going. He seems to know a fair bit about it.
But I do agree. These fucking alts are getting annoying.

Arnox's word is god here. I don't think I could undermine him even if I wanted to. We do have a mod and admin forum, but I personally prefer talking about most things out where the public can view it. My opinions should hold no more sway than any other member's here, and your input is valued too. It's best to let everyone share their thoughts and ideas openly imo. Even if we disagree we're all friends.
A unified administration/mod team is a good thing, but I don't think we're so divided as to cause any serious problems here. At the end of the day this is just a website where we share our thoughts and opinions about various things, and have fun doing so. It's nothing to stress over, however things may turn out.

on &t2 we got A LOT of traffic from the meff threads...I wasn't a fan of them, but the concept of people going to google, looking something up, and finding guides posted on this site and then registering here is how we get quality members.
on the topic of registration closed, I think anyone who would be using an alt already has 10 in waiting...but this will probably help.

On the whole, I think this was a good idea.. As I skimmed over all the posts I seen you were considering a 3 day wait time on gaining access for new registrations.. not a bad idea either. I noticed a bunch of these alts being created.. I'd message the new members who hadnt made any posts and said "Hey, seen you been on here for a while, you should posts more.. we need more opinions around here".. We'll get on googles radar eventually.. It'll just take a bit of time. You know what they say about Rome..

As to the rest of what you said, yes, optimization can help a little bit but at the end of the day, we need content and Google spiders are made by pretty darn smart people. If there's good content, they will find it.

Well, yes, there's no point in denying it... that's one interpretation of the Ouroboros symbol... in that regard eating it's own ass would probably be more accurate. I should probably have mentioned that Arnox would have to have a sense of humour about it.
However I was initially thinking along the lines of enlightenment, self knowledge and infinity, plus the symbol can look stunning when properly drawn. And of course Arnox has an affinity with dragons; the symbol seems fitting for both site and site owner.

I believe risir is getting at Arnox wanting to replace the current user base with one that falls more in line with the tone and posting style he wants rather than what he has now AKA essentially a new non totse forum

No, none of that actually. I think Arnox dreams of a forum like that but that was not my point.
Closing the registration now means that we won't get any new members (I know Arnox claims that all new users are alts and we are not getting any new ones anyway but fuck that). The current userbase consists of capable people who have turned their backs on Arnox for various legitimate reasons so they won't contribute anything until certain site elements are fixed (equanimity demodded etc.) and shitposters. That's the group of people that's supposed to create all that great content that draws in the next generation of semi-genius posters and free minds. That's the problem. It won't happen.

Its not just you and I though....plenty of posters have expressed their disgust and disdain for Zek, along with questioning the tone and quality he is bringing to the boards. And Arnox mistakenly believe if he just keeps ignoring it, suddenly the issue will just "go away". I'm having a hard time following something, but maybe I just need some sleep. Guru, I ask you in particular because you seem the most pissed off right now, but also to anyone else. Are you upset about equanimity being here and posting on the site, or that equanimity is a mod?
There has been a lot of debate about what should or shouldn't be allowed, what is truly off topic, what off topic posts should remain, when it becomes derailment, when editing content becomes censorship, when the right to free speech should override, etc. As a result of these debates, I would think Arnox is confused, and so am I.
So eq has a style that differs from a lot of others. Is that the only reason you guys want him/her/whatever you all decide out? I haven't researched any alleged poor moderator actions, so it seems that she (I'm going with female for pronoun consistency) is just good at rubbing you all the wrong way.
I'm not necessarily trying to defend her points or style, but at what point do we draw the line for dictating content? That has been a point of debate and resulted in very loose off topic policy.
What if the opposite happened? What if eq made a thread in Noah's Ark about kittens, and you went on about how you would rather shake their brains into soup and slurp it out of a hole you drilled in their skull? It might offend her, but I wouldn't think it would be punishable.
I'm just trying to clear up the underlying issue. If it's a poor mod action that gets you upset, then that's something Arnox addresses. If it's just a disagreement in post-style, then you can feel free to address it yourself, but Arnox isn't going to dictate how one should or shouldn't post, as long as it is within reasonable limits of the guidelines.
I'm just making assumptions for Arnox though. This is just my opinion, and it does not necessarily represent the interests of Arnox or the Sanctuary.

The PMs turn angry and weird, and I apologize and try to explain that I thought we were just having fun. He says he's going to have me demodded over it, and I tell him to PM Arnox about it if that's his goal. Then he said he didn't want to PM Arnox and made sort of vague threats on my life. And then he said he was leaving forever, which I felt pretty bad about until he started trolling me again.
Mostly I'm glad he didn't leave.
I then PMed Arnox about what happened, though it was not nearly this detailed so don't blame him for not knowing too much about it.
So we're clear, I would not have edited anything had I not been friendly (or so I thought) with RisiR and had this not been about my username. But this is an honest explanation, not an excuse; and I certainly won't be doing anything like that ever again.
About me spamming, and derailing? I think I'm a pretty decent poster, but I can be a little capricious. If that gets on your nerves maybe try not to obsess over it.

Idio, my problem with Zek is multi-layered, and I've been saying it so many times the last couple of months, I'm a bit surprised you still don't understand the issues.
First and foremost, he is CONSTANTLY trolling/derailing topics with his whacked out ideas and ruining the subject matter of the threads. Like the one I provided in W&C....LOTS of people want to talk about such things, but just because HE "doesn't find any use" in the information, now the thread has been completely ruined. As I said above, if he wanted to have some philosophical or political discussion promoting an anti-gun/non-violent mindset, there ARE other sections for that kind of discussion. But not on that thread.
Along with that, he has put serious attempt at changing the purpose and tone to several sections...and not just W&C. B&M is another great example....when he is constantly telling people to be "nicer" or "chill out"...or even admonishing posters for flaming "too efficiently". Its absurd and completely backwards.
Going to your "kittens" example.....yes, if someone wanted to make a thread about raising new kittens or some other aspect of cats, it would NOT be appropriate or productive to a thread if myself or anyone else started spewing bullshit about killing them or cooking them or anything else. Sure, if we sincerely wanted to do that...we could start our own thread maybe in BI or SG, but in Noah's Ark, that is NOT the proper place for it....because if you REALLY want a section to have serious and sincere conversations about animals, constantly trolling those threads talking about killing them will NOT maintain users that actually want to talk about them. Its crazy and backwards to think otherwise.
Imagine if I went into all the techy/computer forums, and ALL I ever said was something like...."ya know, you nerds need to go outside and try to get laid, live some life for once". And kept spewing that message again and again and again and again, at some point wouldn't it become toxic, annoying and just outright trolling nonsense?
Where it gets even worse now that Zek is a mod, is now he can't even be infracted...and has open license to do as he please. Its no secret that Zek was section banned in W&C at Zoklet, and rightfully so.....BECAUSE of his never-ending derailing bullshit. The mods and regs alike tired of the never-ending trolling and they finally did the right thing, they got rid of him permanently because like a rabid feral mongrel all they were doing was cleaning up his shit time and time again.
Then there is the whole aspect of him being a moderator, he is a bigger representative/leader in regard to the culture and purpose of what this place is about. And his outlook/ideology does NOT fit into the controversial subject matter that is often discussed. Its embarrassing is what it is. It would be like making Richard Simmons the leader of one of the chapters of a Crypt gang. This is NOT a touchy feely lovey dovey board, this isn't a forum intended for soccer moms, nuns, or emotionally fragile people. If we are sincerely ever going to try to "attract new users" having some wishy washy pansy ass, constantly prattling on about peace/love/non-violence is totally absurd. It makes people awkward and embarrassed just reading his cringe worthy tripe that goes completely AGAINST a lot of the subject matter. Seriously, WHO in their right mind that is legitimately interested or expert in anything regard to Weapons and Combat....will stay here for very long after finding a thread with such pointless and counter-discussion drivel?
And not just in W&C, but much of the overall vibe/tone/pulse of this place.....we talk about crimes, drugs, anti-establishment, counter-culture, badassery of all sorts.....and to have HIM of all people as a moderator/leader for what this place stands for couldn't be any more backwards or out of place. Its like everyone going to a UFC event and expect a certain experience, and when the lights go out and the show starts, instead a ballet troop starts prancing around as the "entertainment". The PMs turn angry and weird, and I apologize and try to explain that I thought we were just having fun. He says he's going to have me demodded over it, and I tell him to PM Arnox about it if that's his goal. Then he said he didn't want to PM Arnox and made sort of vague threats on my life. And then he said he was leaving forever, which I felt pretty bad about until he started trolling me again.
Mostly I'm glad he didn't leave.
I then PMed Arnox about what happened, though it was not nearly this detailed so don't blame him for not knowing too much about it.
So we're clear, I would not have edited anything had I not been friendly (or so I thought) with RisiR and had this not been about my username. But this is an honest explanation, not an excuse; and I certainly won't be doing anything like that ever again.
About me spamming, and derailing? I think I'm a pretty decent poster, but I can be a little capricious. If that gets on your nerves maybe try not to obsess over it.

I'm having a hard time following something, but maybe I just need some sleep. Guru, I ask you in particular because you seem the most pissed off right now, but also to anyone else. Are you upset about equanimity being here and posting on the site, or that equanimity is a mod?
There has been a lot of debate about what should or shouldn't be allowed, what is truly off topic, what off topic posts should remain, when it becomes derailment, when editing content becomes censorship, when the right to free speech should override, etc. As a result of these debates, I would think Arnox is confused, and so am I.
So eq has a style that differs from a lot of others. Is that the only reason you guys want him/her/whatever you all decide out? I haven't researched any alleged poor moderator actions, so it seems that she (I'm going with female for pronoun consistency) is just good at rubbing you all the wrong way.
I'm not necessarily trying to defend her points or style, but at what point do we draw the line for dictating content? That has been a point of debate and resulted in very loose off topic policy.
What if the opposite happened? What if eq made a thread in Noah's Ark about kittens, and you went on about how you would rather shake their brains into soup and slurp it out of a hole you drilled in their skull? It might offend her, but I wouldn't think it would be punishable.
I'm just trying to clear up the underlying issue. If it's a poor mod action that gets you upset, then that's something Arnox addresses. If it's just a disagreement in post-style, then you can feel free to address it yourself, but Arnox isn't going to dictate how one should or shouldn't post, as long as it is within reasonable limits of the guidelines.
I'm just making assumptions for Arnox though. This is just my opinion, and it does not necessarily represent the interests of Arnox or the Sanctuary.

And not just in W&C, but much of the overall vibe/tone/pulse of this place.....we talk about crimes, drugs, anti-establishment, counter-culture, badassery of all sorts.....and to have HIM of all people as a moderator/leader for what this place stands for couldn't be any more backwards or out of place. Its like everyone going to a UFC event and expect a certain experience, and when the lights go out and the show starts, instead a ballet troop starts prancing around as the "entertainment". Its NOT what people came there for, and Zek does NOT fit in here.

Exactly Umbrella, and its what I call "playing the stupid card".....because I honestly can't believe someone can be that clueless and socially unaware. He's doing it for attention, more trolling, more inane bullshit that has nothing to do with the topics of the threads we are on.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you do have a point he suffers from some kind of brain or personality disorder and really doesn't have any social awareness. Because of my own arrogance and great social observational skills in the world, I myself just can't imagine someone being THAT backwards/awkward. But still allowing for the fact you might be right, and Zek seriously just "cant help himself".
The point still stands though, whether its uncontrollable or calculated trolling....Zek ruins/taints/brings down this website (especially as a moderator). And perhaps the reason Arnox is so blind to this very obvious fact is maybe he too suffers some kind of social/emotional disorder where he really does think Zek's presence is appropriate for the subject matter and legitimately believes he will help "build" this place into something.
Sadly, only enough time will have to go by to witness an emptier userbase and even more irrelevant bullshit until Arnox finally gets slapped with the cold hard truth how so many people were right about Zek for so long.

Idio, my problem with Zek is multi-layered, and I've been saying it so many times the last couple of months, I'm a bit surprised you still don't understand the issues.
First and foremost, he is CONSTANTLY trolling/derailing topics with his whacked out ideas and ruining the subject matter of the threads. Like the one I provided in W&C....LOTS of people want to talk about such things, but just because HE "doesn't find any use" in the information, now the thread has been completely ruined. As I said above, if he wanted to have some philosophical or political discussion promoting an anti-gun/non-violent mindset, there ARE other sections for that kind of discussion. But not on that thread.
Along with that, he has put serious attempt at changing the purpose and tone to several sections...and not just W&C. B&M is another great example....when he is constantly telling people to be "nicer" or "chill out"...or even admonishing posters for flaming "too efficiently". Its absurd and completely backwards.
Going to your "kittens" example.....yes, if someone wanted to make a thread about raising new kittens or some other aspect of cats, it would NOT be appropriate or productive to a thread if myself or anyone else started spewing bullshit about killing them or cooking them or anything else. Sure, if we sincerely wanted to do that...we could start our own thread maybe in BI or SG, but in Noah's Ark, that is NOT the proper place for it....because if you REALLY want a section to have serious and sincere conversations about animals, constantly trolling those threads talking about killing them will NOT maintain users that actually want to talk about them. Its crazy and backwards to think otherwise.
Imagine if I went into all the techy/computer forums, and ALL I ever said was something like...."ya know, you nerds need to go outside and try to get laid, live some life for once". And kept spewing that message again and again and again and again, at some point wouldn't it become toxic, annoying and just outright trolling nonsense?
Where it gets even worse now that Zek is a mod, is now he can't even be infracted...and has open license to do as he please. Its no secret that Zek was section banned in W&C at Zoklet, and rightfully so.....BECAUSE of his never-ending derailing bullshit. The mods and regs alike tired of the never-ending trolling and they finally did the right thing, they got rid of him permanently because like a rabid feral mongrel all they were doing was cleaning up his shit time and time again.
Then there is the whole aspect of him being a moderator, he is a bigger representative/leader in regard to the culture and purpose of what this place is about. And his outlook/ideology does NOT fit into the controversial subject matter that is often discussed. Its embarrassing is what it is. It would be like making Richard Simmons the leader of one of the chapters of a Crypt gang. This is NOT a touchy feely lovey dovey board, this isn't a forum intended for soccer moms, nuns, or emotionally fragile people. If we are sincerely ever going to try to "attract new users" having some wishy washy pansy ass, constantly prattling on about peace/love/non-violence is totally absurd. It makes people awkward and embarrassed just reading his cringe worthy tripe that goes completely AGAINST a lot of the subject matter. Seriously, WHO in their right mind that is legitimately interested or expert in anything regard to Weapons and Combat....will stay here for very long after finding a thread with such pointless and counter-discussion drivel?

Dealing with Zek as a user is annoying enough, but with proper moderation he can eventually be infracted/banned/exiled which would only improve the place. The onus isn't on to the member base to police the staff's actions, it's the sole responsibility of the administration.
I edited one poll, whose results were to determine my own username. Not a lot of frivolous edits. Even so, that was a mistake you guys should know about.
