Title: OK this might be dumb but help me out here

You know how in the States, there are laws against perjury, right?  However they also have freedom of speech.  So if I committed perjury by lying on the witness stand, shouldn't I be exempt from legal consequences because the first amendment protects me?

Freedom of speech means you have a right to express how you feel, not say false statements in court in order to condemn/innocent somebody.

What if you were the defendant and someone lied on you and you got sentenced to life?

Of course a lot of perjury goes unnoticed.

Freedom of speech in the United States, is just like regular freedom in the United States, it has certain limits that make it not completely free.

If we are truly free in the US, then couldn't I kill you.  Shouldn't I be free to do that?
