Title: California due for a big earthquake
Post by: ngalo1983 on October 15, 2014, 10:42:43 pm
They said California is due a big earthquake this month. If I die I will be disappointed because I wanted to see our whole country die from Ebola before I die  =(

Yeah pretty sure they cannot predict quakes in such a short window of time.

They are actually very mysterious phenomina.  Mysterious in frequency, not in mechanics.

I'm sure the area is due for a quake but that doesn't mean it will happen any time soon.

The Yellowstone super volcano is due for an eruption any time now.. that one freaks me out.  Not 100% sure but I think it is like 10,000 years overdue or some shit.  When it does erupt, the USA is finished.  It will fuck up the entire world from volcanic ash blocking sunlight, but the entire middle of the US will be utterly decimated.

I've never been to Cali, but I've always wanted to make the trip. Living nearly on the East Coast, it's seemingly a lot of peoples youthful dream to travel west. I personally hope Cali doesnt go under, but then again.. I fear that if I were to make it there, my expectations are just too high to not be disappointed.. Then again, medical marijuana, the beaches, Golden Gate Bridge, getting to see where the counter culture movement went down, the vineyards, the diverse and eclectic dining spots... Cali is pretty progressive. Nah, I'd still love to go there.. Be my luck it'd be the day it all goes down though.

Yeah they said something about 4 faults and we will be getting the biggest quake we ever had in this state. All the elementary, middle, & high schools will practice on their earthquake drills tomorrow. I love California because of the weather its always sunny out here even in the winter its not too cold mostly 80's.

If it makes you feel any better, the place in which I live is actually located on the deepest fault in the United States.. Most people assume it's in Cali, but it's actually towards the east coast right through Kentucky. The thing about our fault is the last time we had a massive quake the Mississippi River ran backwards for a few days.. And that was over 200 years ago, so.. overdue is a bit of a understatement. It's also been hypothesized that the right quake could essentially plunge western kentucky (and surrounding areas) underground.. and essentially underwater as the mississippi and ohio river would just feel the basin making a massive lake.. Thankfully.. I'd be on the outskirts.. who knows.. might end up with and awesome massive lake in my backyard.. which would be pretty badass.

If it makes you feel any better I live in MN. Not the tornadoie part either, the part that it flood maybe 3 feet, away from a residential area, in such a way that only stuborn assholes too stupid to live 10 feet further away from the water are really hurt by it.

I'm in MN too and the only thing that worries is me is the cold. Last Winter was fucking freezing all those below zero days. Where is the tornado part? I remember a few years ago a small one/wind gusts hit the North Side of Minneapolis

I remember reading somewhere a while back that when that earthquake occurred that took out the Fukushima plant, it shifted the earths crust or something so that KY is now the new Tornado Alley.. And it would make since considering how much shit had gotten destroyed from such occurrences over the past few years. My own county along with 3 surrounding counties have all but been near completely destroyed.. hints all the new construction.

Then again, some states further south have seemed to have it worse. I always end up seeing Alabama and Mississippi on the news getting some devastating storms.

Yea, I would assume the hardest part about MN and all those northern states that get the worst of the Artic currents is the Blizzard like conditions. We get some pretty bad snow here.. iced over powerlines.. electric can go out for weeks on occasion (last year for 3 weeks for the bulk of my county). But I'd assume that's still better than news reports I've seen where snowplows are trying to move 2-3+ feet of snow off the highway.. not even accounting for the belowe 0 temperatures. I think the coldest it got here, was -1 last January.. but that was only for like 2 nights.. The worst we get and are used to expecting is a weeks worth of single digits, but it usually dont last longer than that and averages in the lower to mid teens.

I used to stay in Oklahoma and we had a tornado warning every other week lol it was my first time experiencing how they blew this big ass horn to warn people in the city. That shit was loud as fuck. I was their when the Twister came through it was the first time I learned that a tornado can jump because it jumped over my block but it ruined the mall across the street from me. I also was their in Oklahoma when Timothy McVae (I probably misspelled his name) when he blew up the building in downtown. I was in school at that time and even though I was far away we still felt the impact at school & can see the smoke coming out of the building. Earthquake bring it on. One thing I learned is to never be scared to live life. We can all die tomorrow so let's live for today.

Yeah, it's supposed to get colder this winter. The Mankato area seems to get a lot of tornadoes

I'm in no way excited for this Winter. I thought I could handle -40 degrees but holy shit your face starts too feel all crusty and numb after about half a minute of being out

If I build a ark, instead of stocking on animals, I would pack 1 slut from every race so I can be the father of the new world lol

So much Win... so so much!

Probably going off base here, but in a situation where.. let's say.. a small asteroid of sorts breaks earths atmosphere and crashes near the artic circle.. causing a chain of events with leads to incredibly fast glacier melting and ridiculous rises in sea level.. wouldnt anyone who owns a boat that isnt a complete piece of shit, be relatively alright?

UNTIL The methane hydrates trapped in polar ice start spewing into the atmosphere cazing  a super quick greenhouse effect.
