Talking about thanks, I usually don't care whether or not we should have thanks. But after seeing some thread maybe a post only thanks might not be a bad idea. Sometimes when we ask for something and someone provided it we are  ought to give some response and most of the time the only response we can do is thanks. Having a thanks button could actually reduce unnecessary post saying thanks.
