and also What was your first anime? What about it caught your attention and opened the door to sweet anime bliss!??
Mine was Inyuasha/ detective connan. I love the animation style and rich story line. As well as lovable characters and Great music! All around, it opened the door to a never ending world of even more awesome worlds to dive into. My connection with anime goes much deeper than just watching it. I will always love anime. And that's it, yo.
Tell us your story!

"Re: What made you turn to the anime side? o.O"
Nothing, because anime is about the faggiest, most chink-ish fucking shit I have ever seen. It literally makes me want to smash my television all to fuck with the piece of wood I use to block the track of my sliding glass door.

Don't know what that is, but there, I told my story. Who's next!

My brother would watch DragonBall Z when we were kids, and sometimes I'd watch with him. Didn't care for it too much, but then I got into Adult Swim and they played stuff like NGE and Tenchi Muyo and I really liked that stuff. The first series I watched from beginning to end was NGE. Some others were amazingly good, like Welcome to the NHK, Fruits Basket and that one where the people have angel wings and it's all weird.
There's no going back now.

You all are in for quite a treat!
When I was a boy I watched pokemon. That was all the anime that I cared to experience. Then I turned 17 and discovered cowboy beebop. Since then I have watched four other animes with any interest
1. Sgt. Frog
2. Fullmetal Alchemist (dropped it after about 20 episodes)
3. Black Lagoon
4. Space Dandy
And that is the story of how I started to tolerate anime.

Oh man I forgot about pokemon! That show was great. Sometimes I still watch the new episodes hehe.
Did you guys see the origins movie or whatever that was? So good.
-
The first movie is the best by far. When ash turns to stone and all the pokemon tears bring him back to life. That shits so cash.

^ This for me. But... Besides some other series I watched such as Hellsing or Trigun, I never really got into anime again.

Pokemon: The First Movie FTW! :whee:

I watched Pokemon and DBZ as a kid but had a long period of not watching any anime at all, nowadays I hate basically every shonen anime ever made so those definitely weren't what did it for me. Somehow someone convinced me to watch Fruits Basket and that probably sowed the seeds on weebdom. Then like a year or two ago I got an account on an anime torrent tracker and started lurking /a/ at the same time and it was all downhill from there. Now I'm the archetypal self loathing anime fan and it's terrible. Maybe there's like one of those "pray the gay away" camps but for people who like chinese cartoons.

When I was a young'un, well before pokemon, I got a dose of Teknoman mixed in with my saturday morning cartoons, and it always stuck in my head as something I was really impressed by. Many moons later I got cable and stumbled across Cowboy Beebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Serial Experiments Lain, and FLCL on [Adult Swim], and my mind was blown. I've been a SF/F fan from way back, and animation is a great medium for telling stories in that genera.

My first true anime would have to be Sword Art Online. God Bless ABC3 for putting it on Friday and Saturday nights. Then curse it to hell for showing me the pile of steaming crap that was the Fairy Dance Arc... And I guess I have started to more actively watch Yu-Gi-Oh Classic.

^^^ Seriously, SAO is your first anime? Don;t get me wrong, it's definitely not bad and I really like the voice actors and the storyline set-up. There's a lot of good anime out there though, covering almost all genres imaginable.. think of some crazy situation that would make for an interesting story, your bound to find it. Yu-gi-oh Classic? Eh, that's pushing it a bit.. Don't get me wrong.. loved it as a kid, and I'd probably still watch it for novelty.. card battling was awesome at one time, but there's plenty more out there beyond that.
As I've stated before, I got into anime from watching Gundam Wing, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, Inyuasha, Pilot Canidate (can someone please tell me where to find this online.. remember watchin a few episodes as a kid and that's it).. Evangelion was around then too, but I don't think I had the understanding to properly grasp it. Nowadays, I've watched so many animes over the years, I'd be lucky to name 60% of them.. But I will say that on the whole, 80-85% of them were enjoyable.

Hey mind you, this was a long time ago and I've broadened my horizons, so to speak. But yeah, SAO was my first true anime. I'd say Ouran Highschool Host Club, but when I thought of it, to me it just didn't LOOK like anime. So, yeah Imma say SAO was my first anime.

Oh, I wasnt meaning that to sound disrespectful or anything SAO is actually a really good one, its just a relatively new series, that's all I meant. I've watched the first season, but I think I stopped there.. Have you seen the second season?

Yes and let me say my friend, in episode 13-ish, the teenage rape is strong. *licks lips*

Well, when I was little I watched pokemon, dragon ball/z/gt, yugioh, I didn't have too much interest to be honest. Not till I was maybe 17 and saw death note and absolutely loved it. I started checking some other shit out. I'm still *very* picky about which anime I like, I don't like most- but I do like it from time to time. I've watched my fair share of shit thanks to my anime freak of a friend and most of it I downright hated.

I copied Neon Genesis Evangelion from someone on a LAN party back in the day. Fell in love with the series and the style.
