Title: I need a new internet browser
Post by: sleeplessdreamerr on September 21, 2014, 02:34:11 pm
So i have been using google chrome, and i believe it is time to move on. I don't like it as much anymore and it seems quite slow, considering how new my computer is.  If you have any recommendations, please let me know!

I just installed Opera. God damn, shit's changed since 2005. I like the design, speed, and layout, but surprisingly, it seems to have problems with some css3 tranforms. It's weird because doesn't now use webkit so it should work exactly the same as chrome or safari?

Btw OP, can't go wrong with firefox. It respects your freedom.

Firefox mishandles Flash very badly, and as a result, memory leaks eventually develop which bogs down the browser. Opera is very fast and flexible with no such mishandling, however, it opens a new process for every tab, which is retarded. Having too many processes open needlessly is a waste of resources.

yeah I noticed this as well, it memory-leaks like a motherfucker. I ended up uninstalling it and reinstalling Firefox because fuck flash anyway, but I might reinstall if I can find a way to make it eat less memory (on a machine with 24GB RAM, it'd often hit the halfway mark).

They sold out to advertisers. Which kind of sucks because I like the feel of the most recent updates. Its still free and I will definitely be looking for a fork or other alternative.

Here's a good trick if your browser has low memory available to it. Install Opera. When it finally bogs down like Firefox does, use Process Explorer from SysInternals to kill the sub-PIDs which show up under the main opera.exe PID, then press F5 in the browser to get super fast loads again. Way faster than exiting the entire program and restarting it.

I've kicked Firefox to the curb.. the good add-ons even mess with it. I'm really liking Comodo right now.
