Title: why do we even have opinions?
Post by: mmmmmmmQuestions on September 17, 2014, 04:41:51 am
as in, what's the point? is it to convince and redirect the present members of humanity, or is it based on the assumption that our breeding will continue and the future generations will adapt our personal beliefs? Do you want your potential children to adapt your beliefs strictly, or decide for themselves? Would you accept your child 'doing his own research' and coming to a belief or opinion that is strongly adverse to your own, or would you attempt to change them? Etc.

We have opinions because they are like assholes.  Everyone has them.  And everyone has opinions because they are like assholes, everyone has them.  And everyone has them because....

If I wasn't drunk as fuck I would go into a long post about how we are essentially all part of the same thing once the 'you' part is stripped away.  That part underneath your personality and consciousness that lets you function when you sleepwalk or forget the last few miles from highway hypnosis yet you still went through traffic lights perfectly.  The 'personality' part of us, the 'you' part, has 'wants' and 'desires' that are ultimately meaningless yet satisfy this 'ego personality'.

But underneath it all, there is some other 'you', one that is ever vigilant, and is very similar to the underlying 'autopilot' that we all possess.  Think leaves on a tree, each one of what we call 'us' is a leaf on that tree, and when we die, the leaf falls away but the tree is still there.  The leaf is just as much a part of the tree as the trunk.

People need to express what favors them, directly and through external change or just to validate their feelings.
