Since it's 9/11 I figured I'd listen to William Basinski's The Disintegration Loops. For those that don't know, Basinski finished the project on 9/11 in 2001, they're re-recordings of damaged earlier work. As the story goes the tape literally fell apart as it was being read, so each track is a short piece looped over and over becoming increasingly more distorted.
I'm not usually into avant garde but I thought the concept was cool enough that I enjoy listening from time to time. It's like a five hour recording though so sitting down with it annually is about I care to do. What do you guys think? I imagine it sounds really pretentious to some people. Have you heard it before? Will you be playing it again?

System of a downs "Toxicity" came out either sept 4th or sept 11th 2001, I remember caring MUCH more about that. I also remember reading an article on their website written by singer Serj Tankian called "understanding oil" that literally got the band put on the CIA watchlist (along with their comments about Turkey-US relations) and agents would chill with them backstage and shit.
Toxicity topped the billboard charts on 9/11. That still seems incredibly significant. Fuck they were a good band
