Title: A rating system
Post by: SBTlauien on September 09, 2014, 09:47:30 am
I like how the Shroomery has a rating system, where people can rate other people and write what they think about the person.

Anyone that cares what anyone else thinks about their posts really needs to reconsider their value system

This x1000!!!!

This whole "thanks" and "like" button ideology is silly....and best saved for soccer moms and Justin Beiber fans. If you spend any significant time on any message board and actually READ the posts, you'll eventually come to your own conclusions who quality posters are without needing some meaningless statistic be your roadmap. Let your e-cred speak for itself around here, and save the fan clubs/validation seeking for Facebook and other mainstream places.

Good idea OP.  People like their validation, as artificial as it may be.  I think it encourages good posters :)

Is there a way to make a rating system, where if you have a negative rating, your posts are hidden by default and one must click on them to read the message?  I belonged to a board that had something like that before, not sure how do-able it is here, though.

Sounds like reddit, pretty gay.

I'm skeptical for other reasons. The thanks system on zoklet resulted in the extolment of a lot of shitposts.

I never been to reddit, and don't even know what it is.  This was a now-defunct political forum where you could rate each post + or -, and if the total fell below 0, you had to set a preference to view negative posts.  Gay or not, it kept readers from having to view horrific images placed in forum threads, because you had to click to view the post until it built up positive feedback.

I don't remember how it worked exactly, but I remember there were certain posters who were at -1 constantly due to their post ratings, and it saved casual readers from viewing and reading a lot of 'undesirable content'.

We tried this before with the reputation system. We ended up abusing it and +repping or -repping users into oblivion.

But if we do this, one could follow another that they don't like and just down vote every single post from that person. Or they could do it to everybody just to be a cock.

With the board theme I use, I just see colored squares.  :-\
